For those of you who run 18"s

Question #1
So I am getting mad tire wear on my car since I lowered it. So Since I have to buy new tires soon, I was thinking of changing it up and getting 18s. Does anyone have a drawbacks to getting eighteens besides excessive weight and rotational mass? Rubbing anyone?

Question #2.
I am fed up with my tires right now since they are wearing so bad!! I took it to rynic (First Mistake), and they wore really bad on the inside. So I took it back to them and we looked at the alignment chart. It says I almost have 0, but that is rated by subaru factory specs. My car is lowered, so does the factory alignment specs work or are they worthless? The question is, Do I need additional Hardware to pull the fronts to look like this || ? It looks like this now / \. What hardware do you guys run, Caster camber plates? Camber Bolts? Or do you just go to auto innovations and call it a day?

I have 18's on my 04 WRX wagon lowered on swift springs. I have no rubbing issues at all. It all depends on the size and offset you go with, mine are 18 x 7.5 with an offset of 48 . I also had wear problems when I first lowered mine, my mistake though. I was to lazy to get an alignment and they started getting jacked up. Once I took my car into the shop it was fine. I didnt buy any other hardware like camber plates but thats me because mine is just a daily driver. Hope it helps you out.

Thank you. Mine is a daily driver too. I think I had less wear when it wasnt aligned, But thats because rynic did it wrong.

i have 18's on my 04 wrx lowered with perrin springs. I got an alignment right away and saw that I had major toe issues, which it looks like you have. I didn't need any additional hardware to get my toe to 0 all around. I took it to AI, so they just took care of it.

Toe is the killer... get that to zero. Negative camber has a lot less effect on tire wear than toe. My camber is maxed on the stock hardware (-1.4 in the front, 0 toe), and I still get wear on the outside of my left front from my "spirited" offramp driving.

Heavy 18's will make your car slow and brake worse. Light ones are $$$

I am really against heavy wheels. I used to have some 20+lb 17's and they make your car very sluggish.

If Your Tire Wear Is Out Of Control Your Alignment Is The Problem, If Its A Daily Driver You Cant Have Alignment Setting For Track Driving You Have To Go Somewhere In The Middle Of Stock And Track Specs.
Replace Your Tires And Go To Auto Innovations They Set My Alignment And I Get No Abnormal Tire Wear And The Car Handles Great Im Lowered On Tein Coilovers And Running 235 40 17's 18's Are Gonna Slow Your Car Down Due To The Huge Rotating Mass And They Are Usually Pretty Heavy Compared To A 17

1) car is ~2-3 MPH slower to actual speedo reading with larger diameter, for the weight issue, my 18's are lighter than my 17" wheels, but with the tireweight accounted for, they weigh the same in the end. SSR ftw.

2) car is also lowered, sti came with camberbolts for front, just got some for rear (since i dont autox or track often), yep! went to AI and called it a day. orlando and staff rocks.
