Thinkin about pickin up this V8 RX7

Hey guys. I am really interested in picking up this 1990 RX7. It has a BAR legal V8 swap from a 96 Mustang GT.

Heres the link
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/794098079.html

Problems are:
-Power steering went out, and no assisted brakes
-Grinds 2nd gear at high RPM
-CEL light for EGR comes up occasionally (He says its a leaking vacuum hose somewhere)

He is asking 4K OBO any of you guys think this is a good deal? How much more money would I be dumping in the car to fix everything? I know almost nothing about muscle cars.

Any opinions and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

that car has been on and off craigslist for months, one of my buddies took a look at it a while back and said it needs a lot of work but if you have cash go for it

Thought it was going to be a 3rd gen.

I'd be skeptical of a ford v8. Hope you're good with a wrench.

Since you said u barely know ne thing about muscles cars (like me), I wouldn't get it. Sounds like it needs some wrench time.

find out who did the swap. if its a reputable shop, i.e. Shock Drift Racing in SJ, go for it. otherwise, i would be skeptical

I've seen better examples of a FC V8.... maybe hold off and keep your eyes peeled for a better one.

Don't do it, thats a horrible v8 to put in there. I use to own a ford and never have had a chevy myself, but I would def swap the chevy engine in DEFINITELY

That's a lot of trouble waiting to happen. I'd skip on it unless you have a nice garage and a lot of time.

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

I am now leaning towards not getting the car, but we will see how desparate he is to get rid of it.

I would ultimately love to have a LS1 powered FC, but I don't think I can afford one at the moment, thats why this Ford powered one caught my eye. (cuz its selling for so cheap)

Does anyone know if Shock Drift racing has a website? I tried to google them, but got nothing.

Hahah.

My lil brother feels the exact same way. He has a FD and refuses to even think about dropping a LS1 into it.
