That's a bit of a drive for him. I would say spend a day in west Hollywood, go see a movie at the man theater and walk the strip. You can also go to the best place in the world to eat called Basanova!! It's on sunset blvd. Right next to Hollywood high.

If you're in Orange County at all, and are going with someone (preferably a girl) I'd highly suggest doing the tasting menu at Old Vine Cafe. It's a 4-course dinner, and each course is perfectly paired with a wine. However, unlike most places that just give you a taste of wine, i.e. 1-2oz, you get a full glass, like 4-6oz. per course. So, by the time you're done, you'll probably have had at least a bottle of wine, to yourself. For $65, probably the best value in dining around.

Which part of L.A. are you staying at? On the westside? Things are relatively spread out in L.A., but everything is still somewhat driving distance...

Melrose has some nice retro type shops for clothing. Like someone else mentioned, 3rd Street Promenade is great for just walking along a bunch of outdoor shops and watching the street performers. Or drive down to Venice Beach and walk along the beachfront and check out the shops and Muscle Beach.

For food, I'd recommend Manna's for AYCE Korean BBQ for $16 or so, but much more fun in big parties. Hurry Curry in West L.A. is pretty good, or Curry House is also good, for great Japanese style curry. Lawry's in Beverly Hills is excellent for prime rib + to-die-for creamed corn. Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles has a few locations you can go to. And one of my favorites, Versaille's cuban joint is awesome.

The choices of what to do in L.A. are endless. Give us an idea where you're staying and we'll help narrow down what you can do.

Well "Electronic Music Festival" is a bit of a conservative definition. It's basically a rave, comparable to Popsicle (at the Cow Palace), where tens of thousands trip on E and what not

I think bay area has one of the best foods in the country.

Unfortunately I'm going with my friend (a guy) who's going to EDC pop, and my girlfriend is staying back home.

I'll mostly be in the UCLA area (i guess West Wood). I plan to visit my friends in either Huntington Beach (OC) or Arcadia. I kind of also wanted to visit Korea town and Japan town. Is that Korean BBQ in K-town?

If you are looking for places to eat that farmer's market type thing is good for a budget. There are lots of options and the quality and freshness of the ingrediants is epic.

i could go on all day about LA sights+attractions, esp grubspots. no time now, but ickwiid gave some really good recs........except for Manna & Hurry Curry. no dis, but those places are jacked.....cheap tho.
::
the dumpling place in Arcadia other dude mentioned is good too, but there's nothing to do out that way, unless you like playing the horses @ Santa Anita. stick to the main tourist Areas like Santa Monica, BevHills, & Hollywood....unless you gotta load of time.
::
p.s. SF might have the big rep for being a top dining city, but I enjoy LA spots much more, esp their sushi joints. Matsuhisa+Nobu = GAME OVER!
i did hit Gary Danko in The City last week tho.....VERY good experience+grub. might post a full recap some other time, but i really liked the place.....better than French Laundry even. i didn't go home hungry either, which is a rarity for those kinda spots!

west hollywood is the gayest place ever. no pun intended.

go to west hollywood if you like getting mugged.

but seriously man if you like baseball go to a dodgers game even if you hate the dodgers, it's a park everyone should see while it's still what it is. if you go sit in the left field pavilion, but do NOT wear a giants hat. just a warning.. that's east LA's finest, favorite spot.
