The release of damning video footage or not, I would have opened the door if Keri Bellacosa came knocking.

I believe the taser route was the safer one to take. As previously stated I think more harm would have come from the officer using more conventional means of detaining the woman. While the officer was justified in his actions he could have handled it better.

Could the cop have simply wrote "refused to sign" on the citation, hand her a copy, and then let the court system take over?

Considering the agitated state of the grandma, was the letting go option even possible or very prudent at that point? It would not have looked good if he let an irate, angry, uncooperative, mouthing off speeder go just so he could have avoided a confrontation. Especially if anything happened shortly after, accident or another violation, for which he would have been held even more accountable. IMO he had to think of the bigger picture and choose the lesser evil; not pretty or easily agreeable by any means, but the best option he had. Just my $.02.
