Tail light tint in South Bay = trouble?
I really want to tint my tail lights. I know it is illegal. I know some people still do this. What I want to know is do you guys get hassled by the police much for it?
I don't want them pitch black, just enough to lower the contrast between the red and white tails and the black body.

I did a light tint on my 08 tails (laminex gunsmoke) and no issues so far. got pulled for no front plate, cop noticed the tinted front windows but didnt mention the tails. If its light & done well (no obvious edges to the tint) then you should be fine

i almost got in a multi-car accident because a lexus with blacked out taillights was on his brakes hard but the car in front of me could barely see. he swerved at the last minute and all i could see in my rear view was a fishtailing range rover trying to stop in time as well. there's a reason why they're illegal.

Okay, everyone seems to be reading the title and none of what I wrote. I don't want pitch black tail lights. I don't want to be THAT guy. What I'm looking for is what seems to be referred to as the "smoked" effect. Here is a good shot of what it should look like.

haha yeah I heard you though, you might want to try a nice cherry tint, it just knocks it down to a slightly darker shade of red, theres alot of choices of transparent colored films.

You could always just pop out your tail lights and shove some panthose over 'em before you pop 'em back in. You'll get the desired "smoke" effect, there will be no tint gaps, and best of all, if you gotta remove 'em, it's E-Z!
