Suggestions for WRX Battery Replacement & LOCAL Source...PLEASE??

Hi all,

Well, it seems like my WRX's battery is going out. Can someone suggest a good replacement & a LOCAL (near SF) place to get it? I need to get this ASAP!!

My WRX doesn't have a whole lot of extra accessories (no aftermarket stereo, amps, etc), so I dont need an Optima or anything. However, I WOULD like something a little lighter &/or a bit more juice/amps if possible.

Any feedback or 411 would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

CL

I know you don't need an optima, but if you want one I can get it for you for $100.
Its the one that you DO NOT have to mod the cables to fit.

Let me know,

Good looking out, Zoeb. That's a pretty good price for the Optima, but honestly, I dunno how much longer I'm gonna keep my WRX. I just want a good replacement for $50-80.

I guess since you mentioned the cable modding requirement for some batteries, I should comment that I just want a DIRECT replacement (NO cable or battery tray/hold down modding).

Thanks again!!

I sold my Subaru battery in my 69' Firebird, so I replaced that battery with a red top Optima battery. I found a Blemish Red Top Optima on Ebay for $69. Blemish, meaning that a little black plastic got molded with the red plastic when they were forming the battery cover. The battery was BRAND NEW and never been used.

thx for the tip, Kurlee. $69 for an Optima is a good deal, but I need to get a replacement ASAP.

any other suggestions??? I'm thinking of just going w/a Sears Diehard or Interstate. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on an Interstate?

thanks Duo, but I won't be going w/a FMIC in the future.

Any other suggestions?? I guess I'll head out to Sears or something this afternoon if no one else has any ideas.

Optima Red Top @ Costco....$100. No need for hookups, available right away, and it's backed by Costco's ridiculous customer satisfaction return policy.

you can't lose.

Thanks, Doughboy. I forgot about Costco. Even though an Optima is kinda overkill for my car (no custom stereo or other electronics), I might just go for it. I need do my weekly Costco spree anyways.

Still gonna try to find an Interstate for $50-$80, but anyone got the part # for the Optima red. (in case they don't have the catalog there)

Thanks a bunch!!

CL

well after calling around ALL morning, I've found out that everyone basically charges the same thing for the Interstate battery. Boy, prices sure have changed since I bought a battery (previous car).

FYI, here are the part #'s & specs for the WRX application Interstates: (per Interstate's website)

MT-35 Megatron (regular)
---690 cranking amps
---550 cold cranking amps
---75 month life
---37 lbs
--$69.95 suggested price Retail price $83.95

MTP-35 Megatron (Plus)
---800 cranking amps
---640 cold cranking amps
---84 month life
---40 lbs.
--$74.95 suggested price Retail price $88.95

I wasn't able to find ANY places in SF that sell anywhere close to the "suggested prices." I guess those deals are only for people that live out in the sticks!? Cheapest I found was FIRESTONE--2800 Geary St, which had it for $79.99 (+$5 if no core exchange).

A BIG to Big O--3400 Geary St., which wanted $103.95 AND $5 core They must have a limited edition that's plated in chrome or gold to be charging OVER retail!?

hahaha...same here. in my universe, there are two black holes: the WRX and Costco!

for the small difference in price, i would just get the higher cranking battery. i am a diehard Costco fanatic though....
