STI vs. EVO comarison contunies... and will continue
for those of you who are really into import...
i'm sure you've read at least 4 magazines that did an evo vs. STI comparison...
and all of them picked the EVO.
for those of you who have read the articles... i wanted to see what your take on it is...

dear parents of 16 Y/O's who want an STi...
are you have read, in each of the magazines, the WAY superior EVOs are what you want to buy your bratty punk of a kid.
thank you.
okay... here's what i think.
EVO, great in the track. to ME, this is no big deal. what is the big deal is that the EVO has the REAR WIPER!!!!!!!
okay... all the numbers are close. at this point, it's kinda like asking: which is a better to kill myself? jumping off a 100 foot cliff or eating my gun? (okay bad example but you get the idea...))
i like the look of the STi over the EVO. plus the EVO doesnt have a cruise control, which is slighty harder than NOT having a radio on the STi.
i'm sure i can come up with more after i pick mine up...

hey joe
i was pretty sold on the EVo. especially after the ride i took with shiv. but lately i am leaning toward the STi. i like the looks more, and the Subaru seems to be much better built. only time will tell on that tho....
the interior is better on the STi IMO. not as big inside, but the EVO is a bigger car.
yeah the EVO handles better, but the STi is not far behind, and it is certainly easier to live with on a day to day basis. if i was REALLY into auto-x (like yourself) and did club track racing, then the decision would be easy. but i don't race that much anymore, and prefer a car that can outrun most cars on the highway. the STi wins that battle, especially after a few mods (se clubwrx and what God has done to his STi).
honestly, until i actually by one, it is hard to come to any conclusion. my head says go with the EVO, my heart says go with the Subaru. i love the sound of the boxer motor, the quarky looks of the impreza, and the bullit proof history of anything Subaru has made. it also gets a 5 star rating for crash worthyness, an added bonus for my kid.
amyway, i could go on and on. and when i am at h0ome tomorrow, i am sure i will have thought of more things....

oh.... the damn suspension.
could it be that the EVO suspension is just setup more aggressively out of the box?
honestly... stock... both the evo and the sti doesn't rank up there in the "oh that's hell of bad *** car"
though i did see an sti w/ a front lip... gawd... night and day.
i've seen tons of evo's at the shows... there was like 10 of them at the SEMA show down in LA... maybe its because my name i'm suby_dude... but that evo is butt ugly!
there i said it.
actually... its pontiac ugly!

Regardless of which is better, it is great that we now have some choice. You can still get the cheap 'n cheerfull WRX or RS, or pay more $s and choose from the serious weaponry. All of them seem good value for money.
Competition is good news for us buyers! If other manufacturers start to follow suit, things could get really fun.

If I had to choose right now (without having a ride in either), I'd have to lean towards the Evo. I've always favored handling over straight-line speed, which is one of the reasons why I don't like Mustangs ;p The Evo is quick no doubt about it, but I like the fact that it's true to the 2-liter heritage and even without the cool computerized parts and front LSD, it still carves the road like nothing else.
There's no way I can push a car to 10/10s though, so I would definitely try both before deciding.

I read the articles. Not having ridden in either one, I'd have to swayed by the one publshed by SCC. They indicated that the EVO had better handling overall but it was the STi that had more raw power.
I've seen the various EVO's on the street. Put air intake cutouts on the hood, slap a big o' wing on the trunk and brembos on it and you know what you still have? A freakin' Lancer. I was, am and will always dislike the Lancer... why??? Don't really like the looks of the car. It's not ugly... it's just.... NOT anything. I would say that I prefer the older EVO's over the VIII. Just personal choice.
Honestly, given the opportunity to own an STi, I would probably opt to take the money and buy another '02-'03 WRX. Probably a Silver Sedan to go with the Wagon. I'm a sucker for the bug eyes.
On the otherhand... someone offer me up a Rally Peugeot 206 and that's a no brainer. Anyone....???? It makes me homesick for my '90 Civic Si.

Think about it... for roughly 33-34k-plus including taxes and other expenses you really can't go wrong.
eric
one more thing... if i could get an STI i would but i just bought a 03wrx.... if i had money to burn then why not buy a new RS or WRX and have fun making it FASTER than an STI or EVO. I think the mods are half the fun!!! make you appreciate your car more.

Am I the only one who think that the evo is bad ***? I hated it at first, but it is growing on me daily... Now, my wife is hating me because I eat, drink, and sleep Evolution style. I just got the new best motoring...just came out today...the evo just whoops up on the new spec c...just leaves it...

oh man, that kind of talk will get you banned from the boards andy.
if you make the suspension on the STi as stiff as the EVO, it will beat it around the track even WORSE than it does stock. and think of the power potential of that 2.5 as opposed to the 2.0 of the EVO.
it's a no brainer... BOXER TIME BABY!!!

I like the Evo and am VERY glad it is finally here. That said, I am and always will be, a Subaru guy. If you're a Subaru guy then this isn't even an issue. If you're just one of the thousands of "WRX" people that want the newest and fastest car out there, then you'll be buying the Evo. Have fun with that.

I bought the WRX because I am a real JDM enthusiast. Even though we got gypped, and the WRX is second best to everything else in the world, it was the best thing available.
I like Subaru, but I am VERY BITTER, due to a POS 5 speed tranny'(s) that Subaru (Of America...mind you) will not stand behind and admit it's faults.
Other than that...I feel that Subaru is a better built (Constructed, not engineered) machine.
Just don't you go and accuse me of being a WRX jumper. I was in love with the WRX before most of you even knew that it exsisted.
It just seems as though Mitsu has done a much better job of taking things to the extreme. Not like Subaru...just being lazy and throwing an overstroked motor in a decent (Not as good as the EVO) chassis.
I have a feeling that the new 2.5 is going to be blowing up quite often...just mark my words.
