The stock rear speakers are garbage. I would like to upgrade them because I like to go to the drive in movies and lay down in the back of my wagon. Also A spare tire sub would be fun for that. Shame I am broke as @#$%

I'm glad this forum popped up. And upgrade to the Audio system is probably one of the first things I'll be doing...
I did the Morel Audio stuff... Sounds really good.
Is there a recommended installer that people have experience with here? I just want a clean install nothing fancy.

Morel maximos are decent for the price. I personally just put a set of focal polyglass 165 v30s in my truck and LOVE them. I spent hours at different shops just listening to speakers and these are what I ended up with. I went to Sound Innovations in Hayward and am really happy with the work they did. Sound deadened the doors, installed the front components and 2 amps, and build a box for my sub for under my rear seat. Check them out on yelp.

My Alpine Speakers sound good off of the JL HD amp i am running. I think my focals will sound better. Im Just to lazy to pull apart my interior to re do the door speakers.
As for someones comment about 6X9s being garbage. I have been doing car audio since the early 90s. I have 6X9's in my trucks doors and everyone swears i have separates. If the 6X9s are the higher end models run off a good clean amp they will sound good and give good bass. I went from separates to the 6x9s back to the seps and back to the 6x9s because the all around sound was better in my truck. In a car i have had mixed results. rear speakers should be tuned as rear fill unless your going to not run a sub. If thats the case it is going to be harder to get proper staging and still have good bass in the car. If people don't want to run a sub in their car but want bass still, i suggest a 3 way component set. a woofer in the door and a mid and tweet in a kick panel. That is not cost effective tho since you will need to build an enclosure in the door so you can get most out of the woofer, plus the amplification involved to push the 6 speakers. Truly tho the kind of amp used makes a HUGE difference too. I keep seeing speaker recommendations but no good amp suggestions. you can have 2k components but if you dont have the right amp they will sound no better than some low end speakers off the same amp.
Theres lots of opinions on what amps are better just like speakers.
Also remember at a shop speakers are in enclosures and will not sound the same when in your car unless you put them into proper enclosures.

Honestly, guys here's the perfect set up for a sedan..
5 1/4 inch mid bass separate speakers in the doors slightly angled up 5 deg
tweeters mounted in the A pillar up near the top - 100 watts to them
center stage in the vents above the stereo 3.5" full range angled towards rear - look below for amp
In the rear run 5 1/4" full range pointed up at the glass with 50 to 75 watts going to them
in trunk 4 8" or 4 10's or 2 12's with a push pull box so speakers are facing each other.. Best design ever with small space requirements..
one JL Audio HD900/5 amp for all the speakers incl the center channel - just splice the center ch speaker in with the front left/right speakers.. eg. door and a pillar spkrs are separates with own crossover so it won't wont affect it
What speakers to get? JL upper end are made by Morel ..
front separates - JL Audio Evolution® C5
Center ch fill - JL Audio 3.5" TR350-CXi Coaxials
(these fit in the vents perfect for center fill)
Rear full range - JL Audio 5.25" TR525-CXi Coaxials
(no need for separates in the rear - its just for rear fill)
You can actually pick or choose any speakers you want.. These are optimal and come from 15 yrs experience at stereo shops as an installer
and having my own show car with water cooled PPI amps with close to 40 speakers and winning many IASCA shows back in the day..

The amp for the speakers does make a huge difference (I'm using Audison). What also matters is what kind of music you listen to, and the sample quality of it. For example, I was this.....close to buying the focal krx2, which sound AMAZING when you throw lossless music at them. But I play mainly mp3s from 192-320k bitrate and in this case, I noticed little difference between the set I purchased and the ones that cost almost double lol. Radio on both speakers sound kinda meh....lol

Round speakers with the magnets and equal spacing to the edges produce far greater clarity.. you get a perfect sinus when you measure the outcome of a wave. There may be some write up about this controversy..
Though when it comes to subs, this doesnt matter much because its just for bass for example Kicker Square speakers they seem to work well. And again its not for highs and mids where the higher clarity is more crucial. Not to say bass isnt crucial when it comes to either a loud ported boomy box or a sealed enclosure for more tight clarified bass..
