Stay Away from 880 near Oakland today

Rode past 880 on BART this morning on the way to work. They have both directions stopped and no traffic is going anywhere. I highly reccomend avoiding 880 all day. They say it won't open till this afternoon. Apparently a gas tanker exploded and burned the road.

I got out of the shower at 6:19 and looked out my window and yelled "Holly Shiiii!". I had front row seats to this show.

I live in the Lofts right on 880 (the Cotton Mill Studios aka Huge Brick Bldg) and my loft faces the Freeway looking out at "Downtown Oakland/San Francisco". So we are talking maybe 300-400 Yards away.

Anyhow, It started off pretty tame but then I heard two loud explosions and that fire went nutty. It was across all of the South bound lanes and the flames were shooting about 70 feet in the air, if not more, and continued strong.

Naturally I was worried the surrounding bldg's would catch fire and possibly mine as well. Anyhow, I stuck out the whole thing to ensure everything was cool. I'm just glad this didn't happen 300-400 yards more south. My Loft would be getting very very toasty!

My neighbor took some video and I'll try to snag it up.

I did get some but need to upload them from my Camera.

To give you an idea of my view, check this out.

The Six Windows to the left of that big brick bldg. On the third of four floors, first is hidden behind that wall, is my loft.

Talk about awesome views

That's amongst the worst parts of 880 road quality wise. Would be great if they go around to doing some resurfacing over there because of this.

Its pretty pimp and I love it. Been there for almost 3 years. Having 10 foot Windows over looking SF, Downtown Oakland, The Oakland Hills... simply awesome. Not to mention the ceilings are insanely tall and the space is awesome. Mines actually wraps around with 12 windows total. 6 you can see in that picture and the other 6 wrap around the bldg on the left. So I get a nice 180 degree view.

ps. i hope no one died in that accident, that explosion must've caused some sorta shock wave..

Shoot me a PM if you are interested in moving in to the bldg or checking it out. There are some spots avl, they fille fast, but usually we get one or two opened every few months. A lot of people can't hang with loft living so they move out. They range usually from 1700 - 2300 a month depending on size, location, and floor.

Cause of this **** it took me 2 hours to get to work from the Fremont area, there was tons of dark smoke coming up when I was south of this on 880. Ended up getting off at 29th and zig zagging through Oakland (while pulling some jerk manuvers cause I was late) then hit the tube to Alameda where I work.

Its nuts, this is only the 2nd day of me driving to my new work location and all this crap had to go down, hope people got out alive.
