State Ref Tickets
my friend got pulled over today while driving. He was doing 35mph in a 35 zone and the cop pulled him over because his car is pretty loud and is modified. Some of you may have seen his car at UCKK, its a white ae86 w/ levin front end. The cop looked under the car and saw there were no cats then asked for him to pop his hood, my friend did (i dunno why) The cop then proceeded to take pictures of his engine bay and gave him a ticket. This is what he was sited for
1. 27156 smog violation
2. illegal headers, catylitic converter
3. removed bypasses <---------WTF?
4. 27151 modified exhaust
Anyone know what will happen with this? Is there a way to pay the ticket off without getting the car looked at and if so how much does that cost?

yea the engine is from a jdm mr2. he pretty much used to drive it all the time and then once he got the custom exhaust (no cats and no resonator) he hasnt been that often. The exhaust is extremely loud, i dunno if you've ever heard tommy's exhaust but my friends is alot louder. hahaha it was just a matter of time before he got a ticket for it.

basically he's got a lot of labor ahead of him.
Gonna have to return it to stock.....or at least to all legit C.A.R.B. cert. parts.
Then he's gonna have to make an appointment. I went to san jose. It's at saquia institute. My civic passed with a cam and cam gear. Everything else was stripped off.
But basically he wants the least amount as possible reasons to fail. If it's not certified it will fail...even if he passes on the sniff. They will open the hood and they do know what to look for.
It's gonna cost him about $35-45...it's been a while for me so I'm not sure. Then he mails in whatever they tell him to mail in. The cert counts as a smog as well...so if he's do for smog he'll at least have that done.....
Then pay the fines. Might just end up with fix its...and cost him $10 bucks.
But with no cats you do face the posibility of getting hammered and getting the max fines for removing smog equipment.....those can get up there.
But if you go to court with a passing certificate and act like a gentlemen he might get reductions.
at the very least he's looking at about $50 and a **** load of labor.
