Question Stainless steel welders?

Can anyone point me to a good muffler/welding shop around the San Francisco area that can weld stainless steel using stainless steel wire? Need to get a bung welded onto my headers for my EGT gauge. Thanks in advance.

Most places will just use a oxygen acetylene torch and cut a hole and either mig the bung on or even just gas weld the bung on. It may not be pretty, but it'll work fine.

He's right, USE A PLASMA CUTTER. Stainless steel should not go above 1100 degrees except where the actual molten puddle is. You know when it gets to be 600 because it turns blue.

And don't get anything welded unless its TIG. If you can't find a shop who uses TIG welding, then buy a machine and do it yourself.

man, maxim works... that's some nice isht.

i would be shocked if there wasn't anyone in the city with a TIG machine and a plasma cutter. any nice machine shop should have them both.

there's a place in mountain view that's got a great TIG setup, but i don't think they've got a plasma cutter.

PLEASE post a sound clip of your car after you install those headers, i've been dying to hear what they sound like.

I'd be glad to post a soundclip. Just need to find a shop to get that EGT probe bung welded onto the headers. I may just go to Hoover over at Turbo Hoses. Guess I was just too lazy to drive to the east bay.

Yup, sure did. Now, all I need to do is find some time to install the header. Probably after the holidays.

Try out..

United Mechanical (U-MEC) -www.umec.net, 510-537-4744

They are down in Hayward...they do pretty good stainless work - bending braking, welding, machining, polishing, etc.
I had them do stuff for my job so I do recommend them highly.
