Are sprint/nextel any good?

Hoping this is appropriate for this forum... It's not car related but I need to ask other people in the bay area!

I currently have Cingular and a BlackBerry 8800 and couldn't be happier. Calls that drop are basically never my fault, I've always got bars!

But it's expensive. I think the data plan alone is like $35/mo, that's JUST for surfing/email, doesn't include the base "talk" plan I'm sharing with my immediate family.

So my friend told me about this special deal with Sprint/Nextel. $30/mo for 500 any time minutes, free data, free text. I might have to go to a slightly more expensive plan for more minutes, but this is still a huge bargain. How is their coverage?

Another friend tried Sprint, got a blackberry similar to mine, and he spent countless hours on the phone with support trying to get his data plan activated. (He never did, so he returned the phone and went with Cingular...)

So I'm a little worried about that... Any sprint/nextel users here?

I have sprint...I like the coverage, I rarely have dropped calls.

For a while I had their data plan, it was $15/month for unlimited data. I liked that as well, I only stopped because I switched jobs and my new job only supports blackberry's.

Customer support is mediocre at best, but I've never been impressed with ANY cellular's company support. (I recently had a big issue trying to turn off my verizon air card for my laptop....took 4 f'ing months for them to get it right)

anyway, my .02 from a happy sprint customer.

oh, and I have the Moto-Q and still use the internet on it.

Yeah the times I have had to call cingular support they've been great. I was told by a coworker that Sprint phone support doesn't have the same "pull" that email support does. So if I have an issue I'll have to use email... bleh. I guess it's not too big of a deal.

I have Sprint. I've had them for like the last 6-7 years. They have gotten a lot better over the years. Their coverage is more spread out. I have a Family Plan with my phone and my wife's phone with 700 minutes, nights at 7, I have unlimited texting for like $5 due to being with them so long and we pay $5/mo for my wife's 500 messages along with $10/mo for the vision package to go on the net. Roughly about $80-90/mo. It's comparable. I'm now finding that I get digital roaming, where as before I would only get analog roaming and would get screwed. As far as I can tell, I didn't get charged for using the phone in digital roaming. But I almost never have a problem with dropped calls anymore.

My .02

their coverage has been a lot better than any other provider ive had in the past few years and ive tried them all.

go to a local store...get to know the workers....forget about the customer service number. the store people know what they can and cant do.

You realize that they have the worst customer service rep in the industry, pretty much the worst coverage and are hemorraghing customers and losing money hand over fist, right? Theres a reason for that.

Yeah thats only for brand new customers AND you need the email of a sprint staffer to access the plans. Here's a look @ my bill :

Plan details for 510-***-****
'Free & Clear Plan 500' - $40.00
Plan Features:

* $40.00 Free & Clear Plan
* Additional Anytime Minutes $.40 Per Min.
* All Minutes Include Long Distance
* 500 Anytime Minutes
* Unlimited Night and Weekend Minutes
* Nights: M-Th 9PM-7AM Wknd: F 9PM-M 7AM
* Caller ID, Call-waiting
* Three-way Calling
* Voicemail

But then you have to count in all the other crap like :

Sprint Power Vision Access Pack : $15.00 , if you plan on accessing the web/data this is mandatory
SMS Text Messaging UNLIMITED SMS MESSAGES : $8.00 , I need this cuz I do 3,000-10,000 texts a month
Equipment Insurance : $7.00 , when the phone costs a few hundred dollars...this is a necessity

Sprint State of California Surcharges : $2.27
Government Fees & Taxes : $4.75

I punked Sprint last year when I upgraded to the Treo 755. Squeezed them for some credits for being such a good customer, so they knock $10 a month off the bill. So my total monthly layout is about $67.
