I was raised by a wealthy single mother that worked damn hard and eventually became Vice president of a mortgage company. She always said, "you can have whatever you want honey" but i never took her up on the offer. she even offered to pay for me to goto a an Ivy League college but instead i joined the army to get shot at.

I had the opprotunity and people like mmboost probably never had the chance at all to have parents to get him a car like that. Overall, it's just wrong... I strongly believe you'll become a better person if you work a little and aren't spoiled. I just wish everyone was required to goto a summer camp/driving school during their junior year of highschool to learn to drive better.

Tedtro <~~~~ not a jealous hater.

when I was 16, I was given my parents 1989 ford aerostar minivan....

when I graduated HS (1995), my parents bought me a '95 chevy Tahoe, fully loaded....(many of you have seen it at UCKK) granted it was totally stock when I got it....nonetheless it was a brand new phatty a$$ ride....but I knew that it was not just a "gift", I took, and to this day still take outstanding care of it.....and the best part of it is.....even when I was 16-18 y/o I NEVER ONCE got a ticket of anykind, and the ONLY accidents I had been in were because of someone else hitting me (not my fault or stupidity)....even then when I was about 19 the very first ticket I ever got in my life was a damn parking ticket! You are probably thinking, "wow, you led a pretty boring life as a kid..." Well, to that, all I have to say is....not true.....I just wasnt STUPID, and I didnt do STUPID SH|T in a place that could potentially hurt someone or damage someone elses stuff other than myself/myown stuff......ever hear of that saying "there is a time and a place for everything"? Well, that holds true.. I was constantly thinking about the safety of other people on or near the road, and how MY actions/decisions would affect those people.....now let me ask you, when was the last time you were driving down the street and thought to yourself....."if I were to hang this corner, and lost control of my car (knowing that you are an inexperienced driver and AWD only handles like its on rails if you have your car setup, and know how to drive it properly)....what/who could I possibly hit? and how would it affect THEIR lives? Now that I am 26, I bought my own WRX...and I now have the mental capacity AND the actual driving experience to handle these situations...and I know MY LIMITS as a driver, AND the limits of my car.....

I COULD keep going all day on this subject....but I DO have some real work to do at my JOB, so I can pay for all my own car stuff, mods, etc...

I am not saying that, just because YOU are 16 and your parents bought you a really nice car that you are gonna go out and do stupid sh|t with it and drive your car into someones living room (I never did that, and I know not every kid thinks they are invincible)...but the MAJORITY of 16 y/o drivers DO exactly that....and always remember that YOUR driving decisions WILL affect other ppl, and you should ALWAYS respect YOUR CAR (it CAN kill you/other ppl), and most importantly....The other drivers on the road......

I am not flaming on you by any means....I just hope you understand WHY ppl always are like: 16y/o drivers with brand new performance machines...everyone does stupid sh|t, everyone......just USE COMMON SENSE.....THINK BEFORE YOU ACT

-Ted

p.s. BTW Welcome to the Site, and props for admitting the n00b 16y/o status......

As many of you know, I hate idiots , 04STi drained me enough already.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did you know that he eventually received an '04 STi WRB from his parents?
He got hated-on so hard for being a spoiled brat, that he transfered from San Ramon High, to the rich brat High School across town, Monte Vista, so he could be with his "crew", esp. his 16yr. old friend with the Red EVO w/$15k stereo...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

OT:

Too bad I'm at work, I so want to hit a fat blunt right now...

I didn't even have a car at 16. I had a bicycle. I didn't get my first car till I was 18 and it was a '91 Cavalier. It was a piece of ****, but I learned how to drive it and appreciated it. I bought and paid for that car, then bought a '96 Beretta Z26 and had that car for 2 years until I bought my Subaru. I bought all of these cars on my own. While my older brothers got the hand me down cars. So I don't want to hear about how some one's parents decided they will buy their kid whatever car they want.

i learned how to drive on a 76 ford pinto.

never blew up. i did have to fight an older brother and sister on getting the car...

i can place most of the blame for that n00b accident on the parents.

remember, a 16 y/o is still a minor and the parents are responsible for his or her actions...

yeah, i remember 04STI. lol.

i think most of the blame belongs to his parents. first of all they buy there kid a wrx when he only had his license for a few weeks. second they let him stay out way past his bed time.

but the kid is stupid just because he is driving way too late + speeding + he only had his license for a few weeks.

let me say this:

if you were 16 and your parents said they would buy you any car you wanted, what the hell would you do?

Stop flaming the kids, it's the stupid parents not the kid! You can't blame the kid what's he supposed to do? "mom and dad I don't think I can control overteer enough to drive this ferrari"

o yeah, my first car was an '88 transam. Man my dad thought it was a good choice b/c the HUGE american car built like a tank would be SAFE in an accident.

lol what a poor decision. He didn't take into account a 16 year old nearsighted chinese kid. I almost died driving that 4000 pound hulk that had like 300 lb ft of torque (which is like, a freaking stage 4 wrx!) and couldn't turn worth jack! (floor it at a stop = instant loss of control. But hey I was 16 didn't know any better) I wish my dad handed down a civic or something instead, would have been a lot more useful too!

Of course ultimately the parents are to blame, but 16yr. olds are more responsible for their own actions anywhere else in the world, so why the hell not here too?

So tired of this "american parental insulation" garbage...we should change the age of consent to 16...but no! then Dorifto would start hanging out at High Schools...the horror!!!
