you're not supposed to gap the -11 plugs down to 0.030.
people do it. but IMO, the amount of thought that engineers put into these things is sufficient that it would be downright stupid for a layperson to neglect their intentions.

i have the BKR7EIX-11 in stock acually right behind me right now as for gapping plugs it's been done since who knows when plugs don't always come with the gap that was specified with your car
intentions? hmm well the gap specifies the timing of the spark

You're saying these plugs aren't intended for Subarus. Are you referring to the BKR6EIX-11 plug in particular or NGK spark plugs in general?
Then you say that a mis-matched small gap is better than the large gap they were designed for. Are you assuming that the average person won't be able to gap these plugs accurately, thus leaving the plugs mis-matched to each other, or that the spark plug will be mis-matched to the engine, but that gapping them down will help?
by saying that's correct at the beginning of your post, are you agreeing with my statement that you're not supposed to gap down the -11 plugs, or that it's stupid to ignore the thousands of hours of design and testing that are put into these products?

WTH? I just posted this answer, came back and it was gone. Weird. Anyways-
I was saying it's better to have the proper gap for the engine and improper for the plug than the proper gap for the plug and too wide for the engine. And the reason the BKR7ES-11s aren't proper for Subaru is the gap- eventually hopefully NGK will get around to making -7s which will come from the factory within .001-.002 of proper gap for a modded EJ20.

ahh yes. i'll have my people call NGK.
quick q: are NGK plugs better than Denso? (ie: IK-22)
on to the important chit. so my car has been idling rough and just generally not running all that sweet and i recently broke the 50K mark so i thought why not throw in some new plugs. i did all the research and decided to go with the BKR7E which is the v-gap copper plug because of the price, performance, and proper fit.
so as i'm pulling out the old ones, i notice that the guy i bought the car from was running the BKR7ES-11 that i've talked so much chit about both in this thread and elsewhere. needless to say i wasn't too happy, and when i went to measure the gap, guess what? mister *** clown decided NOT to gap them to spec, but rather leave them at the .044 that they came at!! hmm, i wonder why the car was running like ***?!?!
so when i finish swapping the plugs out (which is a PITA the first time you do it, esp the drivers side) and start the car up, it's running worse than before and best of all i get a CEL. so of couse i'm like great, what the f**k did i screw up this time... so i pop the hood, check all the connections, and everything's fine.
so i get to thinking (no it didn't hurt ) and if the computer had been running with that screwy gap for such a long time, i bet it has some crazy looking fuel and spark curves to compensate. sure enough, i bust out the ECU reset, and kazam!! thing runs like a freaking champ.
moral of the story. run the right frickin plugs. at the right frickin gap.

My car is a VF34 Stage 4 Car. I run the copper NGK's gapped at .028".
I was getting some odd det./ignition events under boost (as reported by my UTEC) and occasional "stutter" on tip-in acceleration.
I last changed my plugs ~6k miles ago. Replaced them yesterday - what a difference! Car is runnin' great.
So I guess I killed a set in 6k miles. I do run a lot of city driving and haven't really "opened her up" like I used to when I hit the dragstrip twice EVERY weekend... The plugs looked fine, and the gap had NOT opened up very much (if at all) - but the improvement in performance is undeniable.
Coppers do NOT last long (at least in my application). YMMV of course.
