So who like motorcycles?
I finally got a job and I'm officially saving up for a motorcycle. I was thinking of getting a CBR600 or something of the sort. Is that an alright bike to learn on? I want to get something that I can learn on and improve on for a while.
Also if anyone has any tips please share because I'm a total n00b when it comes to bikes.

im saving up for a bike too now. What i've been hearing is that if you don't know what your doing, a 600 cc bike can easily throw you off. I know a lot of people start off with either a nighthawk or a ninja 250 to learn the basics.

yes, i like them very much.
make sure you really love riding and understand the consequences. i have been riding since march of 2003 and had my first spill yesterday. my bike is messed up but i am ok. 600's are good but beware of the R6, its quite powerful. a 600 is very fast, even though it doesnt seem like much. i think i met you at a sunnyvale meet acouple weeks ago. once my bike is fixed maybe i will bring out and you can ride it a bit, its a 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600.
here's the story of my spill:

I love motorcycles - in fact, I race one.
Just about any modern sportbike will make a WRX feel slow in comparison.
As Aln and debbid said, I would not recommend a brand new 600cc bike as first bike. They generally have 100+ rwhp (rear wheel hp) and weigh under 400 lbs - extremely fast, fun and easy to tip over. Expect a typical lowside crash to do about 2-6k of damage to the bike, not to mention damage to your body.
First thing is buy a good helmet, leathers, boots and gloves. Then consider buying a smaller bike like ex250 or sv650, or a 3-4 year old 600. Then have fun!

A 600 would be a great bike to start out on. The CBR's are great. Its a good idea that your starting off on a medium class bike and not a 1300 CC busa. If I were to start off on a bike I think I would go with the 750 GSX-R. Its got one of the best track times of any bike for its power.
The other day in Knoxville at Burger King I saw a custon busa. It was dropped, all polishes frame and parts, custom copper paint with ghost flames, NOS, and a turbo. Those were the major mods but there were plenty more.

Read this and realize that this is a MINOR incident on a motorcycle.

the CBR 600 (F4) would be a good starter bike if you were set on getting a 600 as your first bike. its alot more comfortable than the R6, GSXR, or ninja and easier to ride. like dahveed said, the ninja 500 would be a better bike to start off on. 600's are really fast bikes but alot of people think that they are just beginer bikes. in reality, they are much more than that. get something more basic and entry level as your first bike and spend a little more dough on some riding gear. taking a fall while wearing sneakers and a light jacket will put you in a world of pain. (BTW... the F4I and the 600 RR are not as comfortable as the F4... just incase you were thinking about getting a newer one).

Take a MSF riding course. They will teach you waht you need to know about riding on the street and when you complete the course you get your motorcycle license. SV650 is a great starter bike. Good power, handling and brakes. The thing about bikes is the rider makes all the difference an idiot on a R1 will get beat by a good rider on a SV. I ride a street legal XR650R which is a dirt bike and I have passed tons of guys that couldn't ride. Sure they beat my *** to the turns but once in the twisties they get owned. They don't realize how fast you can go on a dirt bike with street tires.
