I installed Windows 7 Professional ($30 with .edu) about a month ago. Honestly, I don't notice that much of a difference over Vista except slightly faster load times, but all the visuals look pretty good.
Also, rainmeter is awesome!

I've been using WINE forever... and have had more headaches with it. But none-the-less it works a lot of the time.
It's what allowed me to install Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection CS4 in Linux

Whats really fun is having to rely on one of many school computers, all of which seem to have a different set of fonts on them. "The font NuevaStd cannot be found on the system. Your font has been replaced with a steaming pile of crap." I can't wait to get Illustrator for my own computer

OMG You love this too?!?!?! I thought I was the only one!
Uhg, ****ing fantastic. Or when someone changes some little setting (that you didn't even know existed) but apparently is very important, and you have no idea how to put it back to normal. FML!
PS You can get AutoDesk Products for free if you're a student... maybe Illustrator has some kind of free student version, too? You've prolly already looked in to it, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

I have been running it in vbox for a while now and I have to say I dont like how it handles networking. Its also built off the same framework as everything that came before it so it WILL have the same problems. I refuse to buy it, or any other Microsoft product ever again simply because every product they sell is sub-par to its competition. IMO it will never compare to Ubuntu or OSX. my 2 cents

Alright... need some help. I've been using Windows 7 for approx the last 24 hrs and I can't figure out how to organize the files in the library like I want to.
In my Library I made a "Sketchup" folder and within it I want 2 seperate files- "Materials" and "Drawings". However, I made the "Materials" folder first, and now it keeps putting the "Drawings" folder IN the "Materials" folder. Can I make both folders just in the "Sketchup" and not one within the other? I can't figure it out.
Let me know if that even made sense....
TIA!

I would find the real location of those files.... right click on file, under general tab click find target. That might not work, wait, I should just look, ok....
right click on anything within the library and it will show the path, browse to that path and make your changes?

I'm having some issues with W7...
1. I have some older games, like Master of Orion, they run fine on XP but don't run at all on W7, or at least I can't figure out how to configure them.
2. When I try and connect to my domain server (W2003 server), it connected but after about an hour, it disconnected and says that I don't have permissions to access the resources (the server share drive), and then a logon window pops up but if I try and log on as anything other than the w7 client it says that I can't log on as more than one user from one client and if I log on as the W7 name, it says I don't have sufficient permissions...which is whack because I made that client an administrator on the server. None of these issues exists with 2000 or XP.
3. I have an older MIDI card, because nobody makes a good one now days, with custom software, there are no drivers that W7 recognizes. Does anyone have a MIDI card they can recommend? The one I'm using BTW, is the same one most professional musicians still use, or so I was told.
4. I have been using MS Office 2003 till now. On my W7 machine I loaded 2010...I can't load some of my VB subroutines...I try and try, but I get different errors about libraries not being available (they aren't even on the freaking office disk), where can I find them? These are "standard" libraries on 2003. I also get a couple of random lockups. Outlook 2010 seems to work better than the 2003 version.
5. I really hate having to keep signing on as administrator every time I want to install something or run a utility. Can I just change my user account to a local administrator? I did this in Vista, but i still hated vista.
6. EVERYTIME I try and download ANYTHING online, I have to approve and then re-download...this is getting really tedious, is there any way to work around this?
thx.
