Just thought I'd bump this up instead of starting a new thread. So what netbook did you end up getting chinoy?

I'm in the market for one myself, and the Lenovo s10 looks good and around my price range. Only thing I'd like to swap is the battery (3-cell) which I've been told won't power it as long as a 6-cell.

Supposedly 95% of them should run about the same, and the only big difference is the ergonomics (keyboard, touchpad, etc).

btw, can anyone tell me if these can run some programs like microsoft word processor on their default OS?

If you go with Asus they are a great one to go with because they make the internal boards for a lot of the big name companies.

but i am looking at a refurbished dell. its about $60 less than if you buy new and its gauranteed.

check out he dell outlet shop online. i have been to 2 best buys and looked at reviews online. the only one people say they had probs with is the hp, but the reviews werent even that bad for that one

just in time for this thread

im in the market for a netbook myself and was looking into the acer 11 inch since thats out now.

i have some friends who have the acers and ive played around with it and it seems like something i can use especially going to school, instead of lugging around my huge laptop that i currently have.

I got the Acer One D150 10.1" for school and mobile browsing since my doctors told me I have to lighten my load for school. Perfect for what I do at school to take notes and do homework and even check things while working on the car. I went for the Acer D150 since the parts that can be upgraded is easily accessible compared to the previous 8.9" models and is easier on the eyes. I've already bumped my netbook to run 2gb ram with 4gb microSD with speedboost and reformatted to run win vista. runs like a champ since I'm used to vista. Will probably change to win7 soon. Also added an internal bluetooth so when I'm at school I'm using my bluetooth stereo headset with my bluetooth laser mouse doing my homework and the 6-cell battery will last me a whole day.

can't really go wrong with most of the netbooks out there i think.

thats the one i pickedup. well i got the 14.1" vers.
... i did stray away from a netbook with this laptop. but at a weigth under 4lbs and 3gb of ram and a dvd-r drive... i can't complain. i avg 5-6 hours on this thing too. check it out. .. this is a good route to consider if you're looking for something that can do more than the typical netbook.

=P

get the asus eee thats what my wife uses and it works great. The one she has is the one with intel atom processor and we upgraded the ram. It runs really fast and smooth.

i have an asus eee..not too great..would rather go with an aspire, the 11 inch screen one.

and yeah the hp one looks nice but that left and right buttons is weird as hell..its like they ran outta space so they put them on the sides.

I got the Asus EEE PC 1000HE. I love the 160GB drive, I added 1GB to the existing 1GB RAM, and it's got built-in bluetooth & 802.11b, g, and n. It's got a webcam built-in, but I almost never use it. It has the intel atom processor N270, and it has winXP home from the factory. It does a great job of going into standby or hibernation, so it sits on my easy chair arm until I sit to watch some TV - when it is fired up from sleeping and is ready to go in seconds. It is lightweight and runs fairly cool, so it's easy to use on my lap. It's a snap to pack in my bag for a road trip or weekend trip, and I do bring the power supply, but so far, I've never had to use it when I bring it with me on a weekend trip and stay @ a hotel with wireless access. Works great in the evening for uploading pics I've taken during the day & scouting out the route and/or plans for the next day.

There are only 2 things I don't like about the Asus: the placement & size of the right shift key (could be larger & have the arrow keys moved around it since they aren't used as often), and the lack of adjustability of the touch pad (sometimes you have to tap harder to get it to register, sometimes "gestures" don't work unless you are very careful about how you place your fingers). Other than this, I highly recommend the Asus 1000HE or the company's latest and greatest in that line.

Netbooks are cool, around the 400 - 500 range.

You can build a good pC with 800 bux =P. Minus the keyboard/mouse/monitor. Pretty powerful

I actually decided to rebuild my desktop. But I might end up getting an HP since I work for them and all. I want the HP 5101.

I actually was at IDF (Intel Developers Forum) and I'm also fairly impressed with the Lenovo S10-2 (yes the new one) but we'll see

Is it true that the netbooks don't have enough power to run youtube HD videos smoothly? It's what I've heard but I've never personally used one.

As for laptops in general, stay away from most brands such as Dell, Acer, and I personally don't like HP (same brand as Compaq) just because of bad experiences. I believe Lenovo reliability may start slipping as 30% of it's shares were recently sold.

If I were in the market for a computer, I'd be looking at Fujitsus.

Well not to be biased or anything... But the only "good" HP products are the really expensive ones, don't bother with the low end products
