I've seen issues localized more toward the #2 and #4 pistons (driver's side bank). Upon close examination of the factory ECU calibration, it is adding 1-3* of timing to those two cylinders around 5-6k RPM. So it makes perfect sense that they are the ones to experience the most knock events and generally are the ones that go out first.

There is a lot of speculation on why the stock mapping is like this, but no one has come to a concrete agreement. I've heard arguments ranging from decreased VE from header design to higher EGT's from fuel rail design. Either way, it seems the compensation in the stock mapping is excessive and inappropriate when using certain aftermarket parts.

Thanks

We know it was not a fuel problem. I have fuel rails and the log sheets. I was logging the car.

Paul: Yeah I know.. So your not poking. Modding is all about finding the weakest link then building it back stronger.

We all figured it would have been in the heads before the short block. This engine has very low miles on it. Oh well

Didn't you just trailer it down to Crawford for a tune?

What caused the boom, exceeding the power levels of WRX internals, or tuner error?

[QUOTE=Spoolin415;2610319]Didn't you just trailer it down to Crawford for a tune?

please say nooooooooooo.....

well there is another nail in the coffin for crawford.... I knew they can build a fast car but it seems like they never stay together for long. (they seam to blow alot of engines) I FEEL that they dont tune for the motor to last (keeping it happy).

and thats fine while they are still backed by cosworth.... but not customers cars.

maybe I should not say this but they are my feelings...

I never liked Crawford, especially after the GST debacle.

Lets not be so quick to point fingers. I'm the one with a large bill and I'm not pointing fingers.

I am sure every tuner has blown a motor. I know of a few that have. Even this motor was a replacement from a dance with a local dyno.

So I wouldnt go knocking a tuner down. And until we get to the bottom of what happen I think we should not go attacking other shops or tuners.

wait... so this was the rebuilt motor that blew?

did I miss something? Was this the original dyno tune? I'm confused.

I had one last three pulls on the dyno before "knock...knock...knock...knock...knock" set in.
And that was setting the AFRs with no boost.

Without seeing the logs....and I do not want to see them...my guess is too much being asked of the stock pistons.
Hypereutectickenetic FTW!!!
