So I just found out that I'm leaving for NY tomorrow morning and will be flying into JFK and I'm going to be there for 24 hours with absolutely nothing to do.
Any ideas?

Thanks! Its a random trip and its free, so I'm going to pretty much be a hobo in NY for 24 hours
my phone's GPS is going to get a thorough exercise.
I really want to have Italian food, cheese cake, and cheese steaks. I don't have much time there, so I may go on a tour or something? I really want to see central park and the statue of liberty

Walk around Manhattan and the Soho if you plan to shop. Hells Kitchen is a pretty cool area with great restaurants. It you're the site seeing/tourist type, you can check out Central Park, Empire State, Statue of Liberty, etc. One day is not enough to site see though.

since it sounds like your first time, let me find the reply I used previously for another post: depends on what you like to do - like any major city - since it's your first time, should probably stick to Times Square, Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, etc. - I go fairly often so I know a lot of details
more advice: when you exit the terminal, look for the bus to take you into the city - exit at the first station which is Grand Central - that is in midtown - you can walk to Times Square from here, or take the subways in the station to anywhere you'd like to go

Cheesesteak: Wogie's Bar and Grill is supposedly the best.
Cheesecake: Junior's on Flatbush in Brooklyn. Best cheesecake ever.
Not much to see in Central Park. Just a bunch of roads, some lakes and trees.
Statue of Liberty is cool, but they don't let you past the base since 9/11. The view from the top is awesome though. Also with the SoL, it may very well be an all day affair with the lines, boat rides, walking around, etc. Probably better to just go to Battery Park and see it from there. Half the fun was the walk up the spiral staircase to the top in this massive hollow body.
Let me know if you need anything else, I was born and raised in NYC so I won't steer you wrong.

The TIME thing is cool, but you're going to be exhausted trying to do all that in a day. You'll get caught up in neighborhood shops and you'll make it to 2 or 3 of those tops.
Just pick whatever you want to see/do/eat and go from there.

Plus since this is going to be an epic 1 day journey I have to avoid lines, so battery park sounds like the better option.

Wollman Rink should be open by now.
Also, they opened (whole) Statue to public access lately, although you only can go if you win the lotto for it lol.

Sorry for the OT nature of this post, but your threat title made me go out and buy a new york cheese cake, not joking at all. I saw "New York" and started thinking of cheese cake and had to go out and get one... lol
