real winter starts in OCTOBER and ends in APRIL. long winter last anything past second week of April. But 6" of snow on Memorial Day weekend? Although I have lived thru it up here before, it certainly isnt "normal".

now i like long winters. accept this one. we are so slow at work it is getting ugly. i need warm sun to dry the roads and trails so people will RIDE. and PWC's? yea right. it hasnt been over 60 here since last summer.

AND my heating bill is NOT going down due to the cold.

BUT, next week it is suppose to be.....UNUSUALLY WARM! typical cali. 32 one week, 85 the next...

cosigned, as much as it sucks, we were in the midst of like a 5? 7? year drought. Coldness this long, esp in the Sierra Nevadas ensures water for us this year at the very least.

UHG! I feel you! I AM SO OVER THIS BULL**** WEATHER!!! I just want to sit on the docks in the effing SUN. If the ski resorts are not open it should not be snowing... and Donner Ski Ranch does not count. All I have to say is that I'm going to NY for 2 wks and the weather better have its act together by the time I get back. OR ELSE.

in the mid 90's, i skied 12 months a year 2 years in a row, at Squaw. HUGE winters. bigger than this last winter. But we were in a wet cycle in the 90's. man, we had some whacky storms.....

and as far as the drought and this snow contributes. there is very little of this late snow that contributes at all to the overall water table. we need 6-8ft dumps to make that sort of difference. most of this snow evaporates. dont get me wrong. i hear you on the drought, and i am looking forward to big wet winters hopefully in the very near winter future.....

now who wants to go hike Donner Summit and boost off the snowshed?
