Smog in Lake County?

Smog in Lake County?
Ok, so quick question. Its that time for smog/registration and I will by registering my car to my new address in Lake County. Now I know that area doesn't require a smog certificate...
So will the dmv still make me smog my car before I register there, before never asking for another certificate again? Or is it effective immediately?
Rather not sit on the phone for 2 hours if anyone knows here

You should be fine but please tell me you aren't moving there. I grew up there and trust me you do not want to live there. However I still live there according to the DMV.

IIRC you do not have to smog test a vehicle when moving within a county as long as the smog laws do not change if you are changing zip codes. You are moving to a different zip code (and county) with different smog laws from most of Sonoma County, and therefore it is possible that they will require you smog test it upon change of address. NOW, if you are renewing your registration for the year, and you are also changing address at the same time, I would bet money that they will require you to smog test it for the renewal now. After that you will not have to do a smog test every 2 years like most of us.

And yes vodka, I will be sure to let you all know what ends up happening... My registration and my biennial smog are both due as of, well today. So I'm off to the dmv in 7 hours...

o lol i thought cough was you being embarrassed saying you live there
well i know once you live there you are good since i do not have to smog and my mom has not had to smog her car. It also explains why there is only 1 smog test place in all of lake county that i've seen.

My parents still live in Kelseyville - and I graduated (a LONG, LONG time ago) from Kelseyville High School. I'm thinking my cars might need to live up there too.

Ok, so here is an update for those of you who are interested.
Quick answer: No, I DID NOT need to smog my vehicle when changing my registration to Lake County even though my biennial smog certificate was due if I were to register it in Sonoma County. Oh, and what I owed was $7 cheaper
Long story: The lady at the DMV knew exactly what I was doing and gave me a huge runaround trying to prevent me from doing this.
I gave her the renewal notice and the new address. She punched it in, sat there for a minute staring at the screen and said "OK! so since you live up there now, lets see your license. Well, your going to have to change this too, I'll go get you a new form to fill out. You will have to wait in line again, and we will mail you your new ID..."
Me knowing that you didn't require an address change on your id, especially since on the 'mail in renewal address change part' it says vehicle address will be the ONLY thing changed, said "Um, no I'm just registering the vehicle at that address, I live at both places."
Her: "blah blah, you have to, if you live up there then it all needs to match; it doesn't matter you live up there so change your driver's license, why not?; your going to get a ticket if you get pulled over; people are changing their addresses to smog free counties and that's going to to change next year."
After every sentence I agreed and said I was partially living in both places equally and that is where I wanted my vehicle registered. I finally looked at her one more time and said to her "I will do my address change another day, for now I just want my vehicle registered"
She looked at me, the computer, and said nothing more than $78, gave me my tag, and off I went.
So take what you will from that story, but I also forgot to mention my dad and I are co-registers and he does actually live up there... which would have been alot easier to just have said that... But that's how it went down... SMOG FREE

I think I read somewhere that they are trying to make the whole state comply with smog check laws instead of letting the counties decide... the california law as it stands now is just upon vehicle transfer and initial ca registration. After that, the county decides if they want enhanced or basic smog services.

I remember when I first moved up to Lake County and I was looking through the police logs in the paper and I think the only thing in there was "Woman slaps another woman at Walmart."
