I would recomend anyone getting a smogcheck to ask the inspector if they can first check to see if your cars self test is working properly. With their new machines, it possible to run this test first without going through the whole smog check.
BTW, I passed with flying colors! time to uncork the pipes!!

Stromung
Has anyone tried smogging with only the one cat removed?
I've had the Stromung turbo back on for a year now and just got my first CEL two days ago. I think that I'll do the mechanical fix instead of the low pass filter. Has anyone else used this fix?
(two anti-fouling adapters 18mm)
I would like to fix this with Cobb, however I bought the car from the dealership w/ an AEM intake before digging into the facts.
I'm hesitant to find out how much a stock air box is.

There is a thread in NABISCO BAIC about a member that passed with a single high flow MRT turboback.

There is no TURBOBACK exhuast out that replaces the cat converter that is legal..........unless its a O.E. cat or one of two APPROVED aftermarket makers.....neither of which make one for a WRX or STI.
The guy that passed the MRT exhuast didn't know what he was doin.......
Just cuz he has a smog license doesn't mean he knows the right way of doing a smog test.......

No one was claiming that his exhaust was legal. They were relaying information that, if you'd actually had a car smogged in your life you would know, the visual portion of the inspection is shoddy at best. They usually just stick the sniffer in and go.

I'm sure that what place you go to and what kind of car you drive
play a big part in how "strict" of an inspection you get. I've heard of people (recent of course) getting the white glove. To include using a mirror to check under the car. I've also heard of the other end of the spectrum, where people were in and out no hassel. My blood boils concerning this topic. What are they accomplishing! If my vehicle puts out the tailpipe what it's supposed to, why does anything else matter? Could it be to make money?????

CEL fix
I performed the "mechanical" fix for my O2 sensor cel a couple of days ago. I used two 18mm anti-fouling adapters (for sparkplugs). Drill out the first adapter so the 02 sensor can fit.
I wouldn't recomend this to anyone without a shop. First it takes a 22mm wrench (or special O2 sensor socket), drill press, and a drill bit bigger than most "normal" people would have.
100 miles and no CEL, of course I went 12500 before my first CEL

Any intake that is upstream (in front of) of the M.A.F. sensor is ok and doen't require a CARB E.O. #.........the laws have changed recently.
Its when u mod after the MAF, u'll need a E.O.#'s to pass visual inspection.
The best thing to do.........is to take the cars back to STOCK when smog time comes.........I've heard of Ls1 guys reinstallin their headers/cams/inatke manifolds when it came time for their tests...then puttin the stuff back on afterwards.......and everytime they passed and weren't grilled......that make sense to me
