I would recomend anyone getting a smogcheck to ask the inspector if they can first check to see if your cars self test is working properly. With their new machines, it possible to run this test first without going through the whole smog check.

BTW, I passed with flying colors! time to uncork the pipes!!

There is a thread in NABISCO BAIC about a member that passed with a single high flow MRT turboback.

Here...http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...light=mrt+smog

There is no TURBOBACK exhuast out that replaces the cat converter that is legal..........unless its a O.E. cat or one of two APPROVED aftermarket makers.....neither of which make one for a WRX or STI.

The guy that passed the MRT exhuast didn't know what he was doin.......

Just cuz he has a smog license doesn't mean he knows the right way of doing a smog test.......

No one was claiming that his exhaust was legal. They were relaying information that, if you'd actually had a car smogged in your life you would know, the visual portion of the inspection is shoddy at best. They usually just stick the sniffer in and go.

Then u haven't had a car smogged recently......cuz the test is alot harder to pass, and smog techs look at cars alot longer and harder then they ever did before

will the car pass without a catalytic converter?
Put simply, no - it will fail the visual inspection, which may be even more meticulous on an out-of-state car. Your car should have at least the factory second and third cats, and the stock intake and bypass valve (BOV). There are a few intakes that are 50-state street legal but if in doubt, go back to stock.

Any intake that is upstream (in front of) of the M.A.F. sensor is ok and doen't require a CARB E.O. #.........the laws have changed recently.
Its when u mod after the MAF, u'll need a E.O.#'s to pass visual inspection.

The best thing to do.........is to take the cars back to STOCK when smog time comes.........I've heard of Ls1 guys reinstallin their headers/cams/inatke manifolds when it came time for their tests...then puttin the stuff back on afterwards.......and everytime they passed and weren't grilled......that make sense to me

Do you have a link to this new information? This would be great for those members with aftermarket intakes.
