sjpd's new toys.

I saw the San Jose Police playing with their new toys this morning in front of guadalupe gardens. Laser guns. There were about two motorcycle units and a cruiser and it was like picking grapes at harvest time. They hold the unit to their eyes and then step into traffic to pull cars off the street. I was watching behind them hoping my Escort 8500 v50 would go off but it never did. I thought of driving towards them to see if my detector would pick up laser bounce but quickly buried that thought - did not want to become a detector scapegoat. I hope no one here was nabbed.

this is the new "laser radar", its the same thing the CHP used during those I-80 crackdowns, and as far as I know, there is no early warning for it with any detector.

I saw the same thing this morning on El Camino/San Thomas.
3 motorcycle units sitting facing the streets, and pointing guns in the direction of traffic. This was in Santa Clara.

it might be better for us to ditch the traditional radar detectors in favor of laser jammers.

The jammers are a good idea but dont get too confident because police are still trained with estimation of speed, so dont go too fast

Yeah, plus they are simple enough to possibly build yourself.

I haven't built one yet... but I'm thinking about it. It's just that testing them would be a huge PITA.
