should i fight to get my speeding ticket lowered?
so i got my speeding ticket just a few weeks ago... the one i got way back in july... and it was over $400!! so i want to fight to get it lowered a little or even get dismissed... but my parents told me that if i fight my ticket i am ineligible for traffic school... is that true?

Don't listen to mom and dad. Set a court date, plea "no contest", request traffic school(if eligible), request a reduction of bail. If your not guilty get your ducks in a row and fight that crap. By the sounds of it you were speeding and winning a not guilty plea is unlikely.

You can do a written declaration and try to fight it.....the worst that could happen is you have to go to traffic school and pay a fine.
Cops don't get extra $ to deal with written trials....but they do get overtime for going into court.

Here's a strategy that has worked for many in the past:
1. Ask for an extension of the court date.
2. Two weeks before the new date, ask for another extension.
3. Do this as many times as the court allows you.
4. When they finally say "no", request a trial by written declaration.
5. Extend that out as many times as they allow.

I would think that in our slow moving system it would eventually get lost or they would give up and move on to those who don't fight the system and collect their money.
This worked for me but for parking tickets in college.

$310 for me, there goes the grad. money...
Anyways just do what ipozestu said and set a court date and no contest. If they radared you or were caught in a speed trap your chances of winning "not guilty" are super slim.

Trial by written deceleration/Gagan have saved me from 3 tickets 
For a speeding ticket it's difficult but you can hope that the cop doesn't reply, maybe you will get lucky haha

by extending your date, you are increasing the chance the officer will forget his court date. and if he doesnt show up, you are free.
but if he does, some say you are not eligible for traffic school, but that is wrong. even if he does show up, you can usually get Some fine reduction and trafficschool, considering you are eligible. but fine reduction may be less than what you could have gotten if you had pleaded guilty. also ask for community service, instead of paying. the rate is like 10 bucks/ hour.

I've gotten through - uh - a bunch as well over the years however I think the Revenue Enhancement Patrol is hurting for cash now as the most recent one didn't work. This was a clear case of a speed trap as defined by CVC shown on the TA website where an airplane gets you and a ground unit gives you the ticket. In my case the officer had 5 other cars pulled over (3 officers taking turns - hmmm) and told me that he had no idea how fast I was going and the aircraft didn't confirm but here's the ticket anyway. I was in my black R32 at the time, and he asked me THREE TIMES what kind of car it was. This was on I5 exactly at that spot where those HUGE signs show your speed. I had my cruise set to 75 and was tired - on the way back from central Oregon and in no mood to speed. I was staring at the sign that said YOUR SPEED 78 and the officer wrote me up for 85. Ah well I have gotten away with stuff before so no worries, but just a heads up. I personally feel that a year ago this would have been case dismissed. I have gotten 2 like this dismissed with TA over the years. My written declaration came back with a handwritten blurb about how the speed trap was not actually a speed trap.
