Traffic is at all time high. Every side street, back road, and shortcut is packed. Apparently there was a shooting on the freeway no clear story whether two cars were shooting but a car driver was shot and crashed into another motorist. I live around here and have only seen traffic this bad on the 4th of July.

Stay clear of San Mateo/San Carlos area near Hillsdale to Holly. Just giving fellow members a heads up and to those that live here take 92 or 280 this way if you must.

Damn I'm up off ralston I haven't been out today so I hadn't heard anything
Shooting victims car was a red dodge charger hmm I've seen a few in the area that have had sketchy lookin dudes inside
Freeway shootings freak me out because you never know who a loose cannon might be...I've heard of gangs that incite road rage incidents as a jump-in..crazy stuff

Yea so i got stuck up in this, around 5:30 pm. going down 101 south, i had a lot of time to kill, thought i'd ride it out, but it was an absolute standstill for good 30 mins. i ended up driving up the wrong way off the hillsdale onramp w/ everyone else, with some slight off roading, to make it off the freeway and make the side streets home. it was absolutely nuts.

BELMONT -- A shooting on Highway 101 Sunday that left a Menlo Park man hospitalized was not a random act of violence, police said Monday.
But the reason for the nearly 12 shots fired from one vehicle into a red 2009 Dodge Charger in the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Ralston Avenue exit remains elusive, Belmont police Lt. Pat Halleran said.
Police aren't sure if the shooting was sparked by road rage or some other dispute between the three victims and the shooter.
Two victims -- a 19-year-old East Palo Alto man and 23-year-old Santa Cruz woman -- have been released from the hospital since gunfire and subsequent crash at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. A 24-year-old Menlo Park man was still in the hospital due to his injuries.
The shooting led authorities to shut down all southbound lanes of Highway 101 for about an hour. But the investigation left some lanes blocked until about 7:30 p.m.
Halleran said the trouble between the two vehicles could have been going on since Highway 92, or about two and a half miles north of the shooting scene.
"There were cars everywhere," he said, adding police hope to locate videos drivers took of the incident. "Somebody had to see something."
