hmm, i use chevron and 76 and rarely feel a power difference between the 2. i had always heard that chevron was the isht, but this thread makes me doubt that... i think it will be 76 from now on...

If you keep using the same gas, whether it be Chevron or Shell, it'll probably feel the same.
I use Costco gas and the performance feels on par with 76 gas. But those 2 are the only gas I use. The ecu may be use to the Costco gas so that's probably why I don't feel much of a difference between the two.

When I added Shell gas for the first time, that's when the engine felt laggy and stuff.

WTH are the 76's on 19th doing?! They're so expensive now! And Chevron just a block away is under-cutting them like mad!

maybe the 76's have to pay for Iverson's cornrows & salary every game?

Oh well, Chevron rules anyways!! (76 gas is better, but red, white, & blue is prettier than orange, blue, & white)

Keep in mind that not even all 76’s are good. I got one bad tank from a 76 station up north. Until I refueled somewhere else I had nothing but problems, it said 91 but I think they gave me 87.

Since my uppipe incident, I've only been getting 76 and the wagon definitely runs better now.

12/09/03: 91 for $1.97 at Serramonte 76.

While the personal opinions posted here are noted and appreciated, the reviews from this thread have been based on opinion alone. Are there any tests or figures we can look into?

I'm not trying to instigate a debate...just asking for objective figures instead of color preference and butt dyno results.

Its my opinion that all gas sucks out here. But I agree that 76 is good stuff. I drive a nissan Primera GTwhen I visit my fams in Greece and I was only going to Shell stations out there because they came out with a new gas called "V-Power Racing" 99. The ad campaign is great as well with posters of Schumi giving a thumbs up. It made that SR20 jump after the second cam engages. 5500 all the way to the 8k cut off my handrolled muffler pop and the gas made noticable improvement in throttle response. That all stopped when BP upped the anty and came out with "Ultimate" 100!!! I haven't been back to Shell since then.

BP merged with some other big gas company here in the states. I want to say ExxonMobil but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, when the merger happend, all Exxon and Mobil stations (assuming it was ExxonMobil) in Europe were changed to BP stations, while all the BP stations were changed to Exxon or Mobil.

But, to fight antitrust threats, the company had to sell a fair number of their stations to other companies (in both the US and Europe).

BP was bought up by 76. The one you remember is on 19th and Judah.

Man, for the longest time I thought gas was just gas. Didn't know there was so much to it until I read that write up from that chemist. I fill up at the 76 on Ardenwood Drive in Newark. I fill up there cuz they give discounted carwashes on the back of their reciepts

The things one learns when they read from a forum

Last week I needed to fill up badly, and normally I would go to Chevron but decided with 76 b/c it was much closer. I am towards the end of my tank now and here are my observations:

1. much much better mileage
(in the past coupla months, i was doing 320-340 until fill up; basically riding on fumes till i filled up. I think I can squeeze 380 outta this tank)

2. My car pulls so much harder without it bucking while downshifting. downshifted today at 3rd doing 60 to 80 and power was so smooth all the way to 80.

though this is just my opinion, it is possible the anomaly could be this very tank i filled up, and next time at 76 i wont have the same luck. but im switching over anyway. goooo huntington!
