Shelf life of Mobil 1 synthetic oil?

I have a couple of un-opened cases of 5-30W Mobil 1 synthetic oil that I purchased in late 2004. The boxes have been in my garage / storage unit all this time. Is it still ok to use?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.

I was also sent some links for another site that states Mobil 1 is NOT a good idea to use in a Subaru.

What synthetic oil do people use for their WRX's?

the Redline Race Oil isn't good for any motor if you plan to leave it in there.

I use Mobil 1 in my car. I've been using it after 1k initial break in.

i've heard Redline is a JOKE company, Mobil1 is worldwide.

Kragen 5 Qt of any Mobil1 synthetic= 2.99/Qt when you buy a Mobil1 oil filter.

A whole oil change cost me $21! (MV kragen at least)

I find it humorous that internet peanut galleries think they somehow know more about what oil they should or shouldnt use than the engineers that designed their motors.

I also find it odd that the company that created automotive synthetic lubricants back in the 70s barely gets used or mentioned on any of the forums. To Amsoil, Mobile and Motul are the johnny-come-latelys to the synth oil game, but they just didnt seem to get out there first and get a buzz going with the monkey-see, monkey-do nature of the car forums

I read on a fatwallet.com post that talked about oil and they say that supposedly US law or something like that has relaxed the term on "Synthetic" oil grades and the current Mobil 1 is not a true pure synthetic since they sell the real pure synthetic as their Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil. That means that most uneducated consumers are misled and still pay the premium for Mobil 1 when it's not what it used to be. I believe they go on in that post to list all of the true synthetics out there, Royal Purple and Amsoil being two of them.

I heard it was the difference between "fully synthetic" and "synthetic blend" on the label. Maybe I'm wrong though.

yeah good to know, since synth oil is a petroleum product its hard to differentiate between full synthetic and "synthetic blend". Though I think you would be fine with mobile one regardless, if you really wanted the best synth oil you could get though, I would go with Amsoil
