WRX much faster but those cooperS's are a blast to drive out of the box...buy a few mods and they're cool as hell.

5.2 versus 7.0 is close to you?

uhhh

The Mini is probably faster in an autocross event, but I'm guessing that's about it. In a straight line there seems to be no comparison.

I would be interesting to see how the two fair going head to head on a big track like Willow Springs. The Mini would probably have faster corner speeds while the WRX could make up for lost time in the straights.

I think you need to lay off the rock dood, WRX has more power, and AWD. The mini is just smaller and more nimble.

wasn't this settled with that race?

point that guy to the results of the race and let him make his own conclusions. it's useless to force an opinion on him.

Around the auto-x course, the Cooper S and Cooper S Works edition are both really fast. They are at the point where the driver is more important then the car.

i think thats a good assessment. once you slap a supercharger on that light *** mini, it takes off. shorter wheel base, lighter car, smaller wheels makes for a fun cornering machine. with the added power of the Works edition, it just depends on what kind of car (like full size sedan/wagon vs mini car) you want to drive between the cooper and wrx.

haha, fair.

But why is AWD necessarily an advantage?

My own personal take is that AWD vehicles make it easier for the driver to take the car to it's limits, whereas RWD is faster overall.

It will depend on the duration of the race. AWD's advantage comes into play when traction becomes an issue. Look at the old Firehawk races. The Audi's dominated the series because in longer races (but not endurance races) where tires wore and got overheated, the rear wheel drive cars had problems with traction where the AWD quattros continued to put down consistent lap times. These races were short enough that you could get through them on one set of tires and not long enough for a tire change in mid-race.
