SERIOUSLY: What do y'all do when you're depressed?
I'm really depressed right now over the permanent end of my relationship with my GF after 8+yrs.
I've also been out of work recovering from hernia surgery for 6 weeks now, doing nothing.
Traditionally I've partied like a rock star, to cope with my issues, but I'm open to other suggestions.
If you actually give an isht about this thread, and you'd rather not post your method of coping publicly, please send me a PM.
I'm really in a focked up state of mind, but then maybe I just need a new alkaloid!
Thanks,
David

find something that takes your mind off of things in general...
i.e. mindless video game, or something that involves repetitive action (working out is great)...
and talk about it... everything... sometimes non close friends are better to talk about stuph... and when you've talked, it feels better

I've had to wait until tomorrow before I can resume workouts, with this hernia thing.
It was a major rupture hernia, so the recovery has been long.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

Try drinking yourself stupid and sleeping with a big fat chick. That's what I do, since it's something even more depressing then whatever it was in the first place. Or go on a shooting spree.

Find someone that you can talk about the problem with. Even if that person doesn't have any answers for you, you'll probably feel better after unloading the issues on someone else.
Also start to pursue the hobbies or interests that you feel are closest to your heart and get engrossed in it. This should take your mind off the breakup and put a smile on your face.

Volunteer for a local nonprofit organization. Check with you city and connect with a nonprofit that works towards a cause you believe in. It will get you out of the house and hlep others in need. Most importantly, it will make you feel a lot better about yourself. I volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank when I was going through my issues quite a while back. Ever since then, I had a new appreciation for everything in my life. Hope things get better for you soon.

i usually talk things over with buddies.
i try not to drive and stuff. Just incase i get too caught up, might be endangering myself.
comedies are good. Seeing moives like Harold and Kumar.
man that's tough. Just remember that life goes on. Ups and downs. Just keep pushing. Preserverance is the key.
it's real easy for me to say now, but i'll think differently when i'm depressed.
Hurting your body is not the answer.
GYMs are awsome.
good luck

Bummer dahveed- that hernia must really compound the bad feelings as most of your usual endorphine generating outlets aren't available, I had a similar time with a broken ankle during the end of a 9 year relationship, so I think I can relate.
Focus on your physical recovery, that is probably what's going to get you out of the gloom quickest, get outdoors and take in some nature, maybe go over to fishermans wharf and check out some of the tourist hotties for a while, theres lots of fish in the sea as they say....
