Question Searching for stone for stone sculptures

Does anyone know where to purchase alabaster for stone carving. I signed up for a sculpture class and I need to purchase a rock by Wednesday. My instructor gave me an address to a place in Oakland called Renaissance Stone but I'd like to see if anyone else on the forums know of any other places besides that one.

If its small pieces you want, im sure this place has a scrap pile of little chunks

or they will know where you can find bigger pieces.

I swear ive seen stone in some SF art stores. But good luck, i hardly have enough patience carving wood!

Try the phone book for daly city/south san francisco. They have to get the headstones somewhere.

Headstones are usually granite, alabaster is too soft for stuff that needs to live outdoors forever.

I'd just hit up the place in Oakland...

I worked on this project at school on Wednesday nights for my sculpture class. This is my first piece in alabaster and it went fairly well. The last picture was taken at the student art gallery at Skyline C.C.
