I live and work in San Francisco and I ride my bike to work.
That being said, I think Critical Mass is just about the WORST thing cyclists can do to foster good will from drivers. Critical Mass doesn't make drivers respect you, it makes them want to run you over.

if anything they should demonstrate they can share the road with motorist and gain respect. blocking traffic, and even blocking pedestrians isn't going to help win respect. sorry bicyclist, but i like the idea of ending critical mass.
