San Jose may be calling me.... What's the avg rent for a decent 1br?

I'm keeping my ear to the ground for a job that I'm hoping to hear back from in San Jose. I was wondering what the avg rent/etc is like as I'd prefer to commute less than 15mi one way since I've already done the commute to the bay (oakland/San Ramon [yeah yeah east bay]) from Sac and the central valley before and would prefer not to have to do it again.

Any ideas and no Freakmont as Daniel already scares me enough in my sleep .

Nice SJ apartment 1 br that's a decent size for my cousin is $1200/month. It's the apartments on first street about 2 miles from Great America. Big underground garages too.

I'm in santa clara and I pay 1050 for a 1br. Place is pretty nice - recently remodeled. Can't complain (so far). good luck; looking for a reasonable pad around here is a *****.

Yeah, it's hard to find a nice place in SJ. Well, one that's decently priced anyway. I live in Santa Clara and pay 1300 for a 2 bd/2ba apt. What's your budget? Where in San Jose or does it not matter? You might want to look into Santa Clara since you can save some money on utilities because you don't have to use PG&E. A decent 1 bd. apt goes anywhere from 900-1500 lol.

Also, before you actually commit, check this site out. It rates the complexes by tenants. Some are written by the management and you can tell, but most are not.

BTW, if you're looking at Avalon @ River Oaks I strongly recommend AGAINST living there. I used to live there and while the units are nice, the walls were so thin, you can hear other people sneezing. Plus, some tenants are older so they'll complain about every little noise.

Good luck.

I used to live in the ELAN apartments at River Oaks, I had a 2 BR on the 3rd floor and paid $1695/mo for rent....I believe a 1BR was about $1200 or so. They were really nice apartments, nice (Gated) underground parking garage. Management was cool, the tennants were pretty cool too...I never had any issues with noise OR parking, there was ALWAYS parking available (Even at 3AM on Sat. Morning). Lots of families live there, but they mostly were of the younger generation.

almost forgot - when you're looking, this webpage will help: http://housingmaps.com/

the author used google maps' mapping utilties and combined them with craigslist's housing postings. Gives you all the places by location on a map. again, good luck.

last i checked.. you can expect to find 1 br places between about 950 and 1600.
You might not want to live int he 950 one.. neighborhood and other things might be less than good..
somewhere in between is better.. and the further outside of te downtown area you look the better the average gets.

I'm currently paying @1150 for a 1br down here so trust me anything in that range will be feasable or even up to about 1300 since the pay will be almost 20k/yr more than what I make down here.
