Rwd Sti?

im thinking about converting my 05sti from awd->rwd. Kingpin has a conversion diff for it. Im just wondering if the stock drivetrain can handle all that power going to the rear.

no, not the stock R180, you would need at least an R200 or better yet an R220, but why would you do this??

And if you say because you want to be a drift0r I will lose all respect for you and punch you

if it didnt involve swapping in a R200 rear diff i woulda did it just to be different. But having to swap out the rear diff for a skyline rear diff and making brackets to hold it sounds like too much work for me.

Who on here wouldnt drop their jaw and start drooling if u saw a Sti doing a break stand next to them at a stop light =D

lol, well Ive already had my share of big power RWDs, and Im not 16yo anymore so seeing someone do donuts/stoplight burnouts doenst leave me slack-jawed and drooling. So I guess if I saw someone in an STI doing RWD burnouts I would know that they dismatled their AWD just for the sake of showing off, wow nice, would you like some altezzas to go with that

I think your on the right track, pick up an AE86 or 240SX, you could easily get one for the price of what it would take to make your STI into a RWD and they are both much better platforms for drifiting that a STI with the front axles pulled out would be, and your not as heartbroken if you start bouncing them off of solid objects either

i wonder how much more power you'll gain converting to rwd since there wont be a lot of drivetrain loss.

There will still be more considering you still gotta go through a center diff (even if it is locked)

Just trade in the STi for an LS1 car or mustang and be done with it.

with a 100% rwd conversion you will gain a good amount of power my stg 2 wrx made 234/227 which was the highest # for a stg 2 wrx that fli has seen id say that the awd powertrain gives you about a 18-22% loss ill go out on a limb and say that with a rwd conversion that the drivetrain loss would be about 10-15% and this is why a rearend swap would be needed.
