thats hella rude. **** that *****!
even though i am very close to my relatives and when they even give me permission to have mostly w/e i want in their house, i still do not take it to the full advantage because that is rude. i always ask for everything. but when its something like getting a drink from the fridge in the garage that i've done plenty of times, it can get annoying asking them every time. so little things like that i dont really have to ask. but everything else, ofcourse no matter how close you are, it is still not your house. ppl these days have lost their manners

This was rough for me but I don't think its rude. As an only child I am very selfish and would have agreed with you. However I just married into a large family that is Hawaiian so Its all what's mine is your and vice versa. So if your wife feels its not rude this is one of those situations where your family values differ.
I can see how it would be annoying for you as it was for me at first but now I just eat all their food when I go over there.

I'd tell someone "you can eat whatever you want, just ask for it first." Not like that helps much in your situation. A spoiled brat is a spoiled brat. =/

What if she asked first? Would that make it a little better? I was raised to share...give give give (But I'd probably hoard the rare/special items too). Any member of my family or any of my close friends are more than welcome to anything in the fridge/pantry. It is always appreciated if they ask first, just like I would ask any of them. But if she's not really close to you, that's understandable. Is she super close with your wife?
THAT'S going too far. Ridiculous.
This is SOOO true. I live with my gf of 5 years and her family has absolutely no respect for anything in the house. Food is just the begining, they think it's okay to feed and treat my dogs however they like. (my dogs have a strict diet)
It gets worse, they think it's ok to open my packages and my MAIL!!! They can't get it through their heads that it is not ok. They do all these things at their own house and it's ok there but this is MY house. My gf says that they don't know any better. BTW these are not children. The youngest one is 17.
Just thinking about it drives me crazy.
//End rant.

help yourself
if a friend/family member of mine and comes over or even stays over i want them to think of my house as there house. i have had many people live with me and i have wanted them to feel comfortable and welcome.
making a guest feel like uncomfortable/ unwanted is more rude.
total run of the house or dont stay.

thats very rude, what a classless person, its always proper to ask for anything that u would want to eat, use, or whatever. I would have blown up if i saw her eating my food that i am the only one allowed to eat.

If it's just food, I wouldn't worry about it. If she is helping herself to cash or your vcr, then there is a real problem. I am not sure how old you are, how how long you've been married, but don't let the little things bother you. It's not worth the trouble. Trust me.
