Blizzard and EA must be going "F*ck.. our entire model looks like **** now".
Cliffs on the awesomeness:
1. Ability to zoom out and view the entire war
2. Completely **** all over every other RTS waypoint/patrol system.
3. Units and weapons fire independently via simulation. Weapons do not "insta hit".
4. Unbelievably scale. Battleships are truly epic, and massive experimental units are awesome.
5. Land, sea, and air, plus blendings of the three

real time strategy. if this game gets big like starcraft or age of empires of the c & c series, i'll definitely get it. The one thing they really should focus on is online play. every single player game gets boring, but if you have a kickass online game then it'll sell.

I don't know about "blow away all the RTS games." It looks like a cool game, and it will probably be pretty fun. What about story? Background? The thing that separates the good games from the great games is story. Look at Halo vs UT. UT in combat modes, game play, and graphics was probably better than Halo...but Halo is a much better game to play.

The story involves four sibling monarchs in their struggle to dominate the land of Darien : Elsin of Aramon, Kirenna of Veruna, Thirsha of Zhon and Lokken of Taros, following the disapperance of their father, Garacaius.
A more detailed story and world was presented in Total Annihilation: Kingdoms than was in Total Annihilation. The missions coincided with the storyline that was presented. In one example, a cutscene describes that the side of Aramon obtains the use of gunpowder. In that mission, the player plays the side of Aramon where using a gunpowder-based unit is critical towards the success of that mission.
The Core Contingency picks up where the original game left off, with the Arm achieving final victory over the Core in the long galactic war that lasted over 4,000 years. With the Core seemingly wiped out of existence, the Arm underwent a hundred years of reconstruction.
However, a lone Core Commander had survived, hidden away in a distant system. The Core Commander is charged with a single mission: to search for a powerful and ancient alien artifact hidden in the area. With modifications, the artifact can be converted into an Implosion Device - a single, phenomenally powerful superweapon which once activated, causes the entire Galaxy to implode upon itself, taking out the Arm with it.
Meanwhile, with rumours circulating amongst the Arm populace over the said Contingency Plan, an Arm Commander was dispactched, along with sizable reinforcements, to investigate the rumours.
