I also enjoy the nevada side(the best side of heavenly imo), just not nevada! haha. I tend to smoke and they don't like that there.
There's a gate up there and I just ducked because I was below the gate. That whole video is from ONE run and I cut out about five minutes of footage. Definitely one of the best runs in Tahoe. almost 2000'.

I'm heading to kirkwood now if anyone wants to join. I'll probably be there tomorrow too.

I've never been to Bear Valley and thinking about going up this Sunday. Is it closer than going to the resorts in Tahoe?

As far as the "weird" lay of the land: it just takes experience & familiarity. I rarely ride there, but know it well enough to get around w/o much difficulty. And I still have fun despite how madhouse the place can get.

Oh, and I love that Hollywood hit under Chair 4. It's about 1/4 - 1/3 the way up fr the bottom, yeah? I made my buddy's eyes bug out the one time I almost landed on the li'l tree in the run-out.

I prefer the NV side of the mtn. During cold storms, I don't bother much w/ the upper mtn. Tons of fun in the trees off Stagecoach. Galaxy's fun, too... just not steep enough.

Your run on the vid was super long. Did you duck a rope & ride OB?

Holy hell that's a STEAL! I'm supposed to ride Sun only @Sierra, but I may have to see about swinging Sat @The Wood.

Where are y'all planning to ride on Mon?
sierra monday heavenly sunday

While my plans look like I'll be riding Sierra on Sun (me & my peeps wanna roll up during the day 2mrw & hotel it in So. Lake), I'd be down to roll up at oh-dark-thirty 2mrw to meet you @ The Wood. I'd be stoked to get 2 days in again!

You riding 2mrw, too? Like I just mentioned, I wanna ride KW 2mrw w/ Mt.STi. But if that doesn't work out, maybe I'll get my two days by riding Sierra on Mon w/ y'all. Gotta see what unfolds on my end.

Bear's super easy to get to, esp. fr: the East & South Bay. I'm up in Vallejo, so my most direct route takes me thru Hwy-12 past Lodi, etc. It seemed so much faster when I lived in SanJo since on the 1st half of my trip along 680 & 580 I was moving @ hwy speeds.

Compared to the Sierra & Sugar Bowl (the 2 closest & worthwhile spots off the usual Tahoe runs), it's maybe 15 minutes closer. Online maps will say it's about a 25-min difference. But again, much of the driving on 80 & 50 is at 70+ mph so the major routes can be quicker. This wknd is likely a wash since the snow levels are so damn low, so the slow-going will start much sooner.

Wherever you end up, stay safe & have fun!

I just remembered tomorrow is saturday and I only have a 6 wood pass.(no sat) But if you're heading there for sure I can get passes for $25 from my bud so I'd be down.
If not, Heavenly +fire break on sunday then Sierra for monday.

Ohh yeah I didn't make kirkwood today so we hit heavenly instead. It's a little heavy out there but super soft.
We already have close to 3 feet on the driveway! Come get some!

I just checked a buncha snow reports. And it looks my prediction did, in fact, come tru after all... No lifts running or very limited ops.

Super heavy snowfall amounts (>1 in/hr) & the wind advisory had gusts up near the prediction of earlier this week.

I'll keep y'all posted on what works out on my end. Thnx for the updates. Glad you were able to get some turns in before they shut the mtn down.

Guys heading out to Kirkwood, make sure you check the road reports. Hwy 88 was already closed this morning coming up from Jackson. Being held for Avalanche control.
Thats what sucks the most about getting to the Wood from the bay. About every time they get some heavy snowfall, Carson Spur gets shut down.

Saw that earlier, too, Steve.

Looks like 80's been shut down for a while too. I haven't bothered checking the traffic cams to verify, but I imagine it's pretty gnarly out there, esp. w/ tons more semi's & regular passenger vehicles as well.

Yea I've made the drive to kirkwood the long way one year. Up 50 to 89 and down 88 into kwood. I don't recommend it, but it did only take 5 hours despite driving through some serious snow. Thankfully there was next to nobody going to kwood that day, had the mountain to ourselves just about.

I unfortunately won't be able to make it up in this storm. Since my son is turning 1 next Friday, and we have the party set for Saturday, I have a ton of honey do list work to get completed.
