I dont understand what you mean by "the one that steals HP" Last time i checked the ATP dyno was cosistant with previous dyno runs and actually showed some hp improvements with modifcations.
Or maybe everyone was lucky that they didnt fill up with a "bad tank of gas."

the dynojet dyno doesn't "steal" horsepower" it just consistantly produces lower absolute readings than other models of dynos. you can't really compare dyno results between models of dynos, and have anything that even remotely resembles an accurate comparison. Factory dynos tend to produce higher power readings than their Dynojet counterparts. so, someone who had their car dyno'd on a factory dyno, made some mods, and then did a follow up on a dynojet dyno might wonder why they "lost" horsepower.

oops ... I should have clarified that "steal" comment.
For those who haven't read that Turbo magazine article. They took a 350Z and went around a few dynos to see what they would read - same day, same car, no changes. It provided interesting results.
My steal comment came from the fact that the Dynojet running the Windows OS was reading less HP than the Dynojet running DOS. Same dyno ... different OS. Interesting huh?
So Bill Gates not only want to steal your $$$, he wants Windows to suck up some of you HP for himself.

I am very confused? I use Unix systems daily, and Windows systems daily. I even write programs that run on both system, with not even changing the source code. How in the world can Windows "Steal" horsepower? Windows has nothing to do with it, nor does Unix. NOTHING, seriously, it has to do with the software that was created for the operating system. The operating system was not created for the software. If anything the softwares are different, which they totally are, two different people made it based on two different idea's. People believe in one for some reason and poeple believe in another for another reason. When you get down too it, this is all you need to do. You get a base run see how much you are making, then start tuning. Once you are done you have a different number. What is the difference then? That is how much horsepower you made.
Why does everyone have to hate on ATP anyway? They have put down cosistent numbers day in and day out. Other dyno's, well, who knows... Besides that I have never seen ATP even care that there dyno is totally different and supposedly the bad dyno to go too. You know why because it is a waste of time to even bother discussing this matter. The only time this matters is when you need 1 more horsepower for your Formula 1.
Go to whoever you want, read up on each and every tuner, even ask them questions. In the end that will give you the choice you want.

Wow ... Skywalker is taking this very seriously. I meant this is as an oddity, a joke. But to help clarify things to those who may be unclear by this discovery. The differences arise from the calibration of equipment. Its apparent in that article that the two different dynojets that were used were not calibrated the same ... that's it. Does 1HP on Dyno#1 = 1 real HP? That depends on the dyno and its calibration because we already know that it does not equal to 1HP on Dyno#2.
So I do concur with Skywalker ... simply go to any Dyno and get a baseline. When you want to see the power difference after making modifications ... go back to the same dyno and run it again. Make sure that there is the same settings (has not been recalibrated and remove any sort of atmospheric corrections). Because being off by 2-3% on a 300 HP car is 6-9whp --> which is a huge margin, when your modifications are "small".
As most of you know i've been to both ATP and Vishnu. My only concern is that, unless you have a reflashed ECU (that makes MAX corrections quickly), it typically takes about 8-10 runs for your dyno plots to stabilize.

CupertinoSteve... Yes I am taking it seriously (very seriously, ehhh not really) because I am tired of hearing about it. How long can we talk about the same things over and over. I was able to talk about Cheez-It's for an hour and a half one night and trust me by the time that was done everyone really didn't want to talk to me for quite a while.
IMHO ask those tuners questions. Find out who you really want tuning your car. If you want I-Speed (with ATP's dyno) to tune it great, if you want Vishnu to tune it awesome, someone else cool. I don't care anyway as long as the person getting the tune is happy. Since that is all that really matters right?
