Best buy sells them. They run about 250 bucks for the keyless entry with remote start. If you want a viper alarm with remote start those go for around 650. Most places will not install a remote start in manual transmission cars. I believe it is illegal. The reason being that if you leave it in gear the car will jump upon remote start. Stereo shops would be more willing to install something like this because they are not a huge corporation like Best Buy, and are not being watched. (No investors). any stereo shop that sells alarms has remote start systems available, just about.

I'd go with the cliford or viper ones Matt (they are the same thing). I had a remote start for my old car, but I never got it installed, and it had a wire loop on the brain of the unit that you cut if it was for a manual car, and it said nothing about it being illegal for manuals. With the STi it'll cost a little more because of the immobilizer. Also, they'll have to overraide the clutch sensor so that the car can start without the cluch being in (meaning if you want to use remote start, you can't leave it in gear obviously)

You can put them on a standard. Just like above you need a clutch bypass.

doing a quick search majority of people have said its not illegal, I emailed Viper alarms so we'll see what they say. Some people have said that you need to just cut the clutch sensor wire, meaning if you have an APv2 you wont be able to use any of the launch control maps, because they rely on that sensor.

However, someone else said somewhere that there is a company that makes remote starts for MT cars and in order to be able to start it you have to leave the car running, put on the e-brake, take your foot off the brake pedal, and close the door, after that the car shuts down in 30 seconds or something

hmmmm... I dont think I like the sound of that. I need to research more, see what the pros and cons are....I wouldnt want to cut a wire and then be screwed if I ever sold the car.

Anyone have a remote start on their car? Pros and Cons?

Thanks everyone so far!

yeah, I wouldn't want to cut the wire, but you may be able to override it as far as the alarm goes. Look on the clifford and viper websites and call some of the shops that sell them and ask how its done. Otherwise theres the other alarm that has a turbo-timer like function to enable the remote start, I just forget the name

correct, which is why the other brand has a procedure you must go through before it'll let you do remote start the next time

Reminds me of a situation at a car wash down in Palmdale. We were having our car detailed, and the ricer beside our car was getting his done at the same time. There was a car that was parked right in front of him. For some reason, the guy working on the ricer car had the keys in his pocket, and accidentally leaned on them as he was leaning over the fender. The remote starter engaged, and that car just jumped until it went smack into the car in front of it.

We were laughing...

...the ricer boy wasn't.

i gots a remote start on my car matt, its nice to have. custom car alarm installed mine in concord, they have a few subies there and they do great work. good to have all year because your car will be warm when you get to it. the bad is parking it on hills where you have to leave it in first and might accidentally press the start button. my .02 cents

i have remote start on my car, some guy off rs25 did it for me for around 130 bucks dont even remember the forum id anymore. and it works great except for the fact that my key broke because i dropped it too many times, but when it did work for me its all pro there are absolutely no cons to this system just do not leave your car in first. it warms up the car before even walking outside the door

Take it to Audiomobile in Oakland. They do some clean installs.

Ask for Bo or Alan.
