Red face Recommended shop for replace a cracked windshield ?

Went to Tahoe over last weekend, parked the car in the ski resort parking lot. When I returned at the end of fun day, the windshield had cracked for about 6" for no clear reason. There isn’t any sign of hard object hit the glass; weather was rather warm up there, so I don’t think that is the cause either. Only thing I have done before the trip was apply a light layer of glass wax inside of window to avoid fogging up. That can’t be it , can it?

Anyway, crack ! crack ! crack !

Any suggestion for a south bay shop does good job with fair price is much appreciated.

I got mine 2 years ago in a business plaza across from Eastridge Mall in San Jose. They did a good job considering they used my old molding and no leaks. Cost was like $250. They do onsite too. I'll try to find a reciept tonight.

My cousin got his for $138.88 on his 91 mr2 turbo.

I'll be bringing mine in pretty soon since I have a 6" crack in my windshield as well.

I think the crack has grow another inch or so while driving around town today..
I got a quote for $220 at Safelite AutoGlass, but I should give 'Low Price Auto Glass' a call to see if they have better price tomorrow.

Does that include a new gasket? I seem to remember them quoting me a similar price, and they called back a few minutes later saying - "Oops, there's an extra $75 on top of that for the gasket". They did a good job though so I was pretty happy.

Any quote under $250 is probably re-using your existing gasket because this alone costs > $70.

Done, took it to Stevens Creek Safelite's store manager Paul. About 50 mins and $228 included tax. Used the original molding.. Will check for leak after driving around in the rain.

Just FYI, also got a quote from Low Price Auto for $185, pretty good, but they donot come to your location for job.

Didn't you just say you took it to the Stevens Creek Safelite store? Doesn't that negate the benefit of having someone come to your location? Not trying to be a d*ck, just wondering why you wouldn't save yourself the $40 if you had to take it somewhere anyways.

No problem. I took it to store because I found out it's few blocks from my house and already made arrangement yesterday afternoon (Before I got responds). After that, Safelite's customer service lady just sounds more profession on the phone … I know that doesn’t mean s*it some times, but just going with my guts …

So mainly for convenience reasons. But I do appreciate the suggestions folks made.

Have you tried checking with your insurance about this?? I have State Farm and all they made me do is pay a $100 deductable and I got my windshield for free. Some have special deductables for windows that are way cheaper than your regular one.

I'm getting mine changed on Monday. $345 from Safelite with a new moulding - so that doesn't sound too different from your $228 plus the extra part.

humm. no luck with that special deductable like yours.
My agent told me windshield crack replace fall under the comprehensive coverage which for me is $500.

I was hoping to get some kick back to paint my side skirt.. well, now maybe later.
