Rebuilding a TD04-13T, is there a larger compressor wheel I can install?
I picked up a TD04 turbo from another i-club member with the intent of rebuilding it for the learning experience, maybe do a little porting job, and replace my aging stocker that has 70K miles on it(50K tuned for high PSI).
My question is: Does anyone know what, if any, compressor wheel I could install as an "upgrade" with little modification to the compressor housing?
Any and all tips, advice, and suggestions are appreciated.
The goal is to get quicker spool up, with maybe a little more top end without having to buy a bigger turbo/injectors/fuel pump, etc...

Honestly, I dunno if DIY porting job would be a good idea. I mean yeah the TD04 is cheap, but remember turbos are built to certain tolerances. I wouldn't start grinding away with a dremel tool and try to make it perform better. Especially since I don't think you will be doing any port matching.
The spoolup on the stock turbo is pretty damn quick already, I don't know what more can really be achieved realistically. Maybe send the turbo off to Deadbolt? In the end, you're just better off with a VF34 for all the time and money you're looking to spend.

I did some research on this myself a while back. It seems there are upgrades available. Deadbolt has it listed as an option for their "Monster" TD04. I don't have the exact specs, but I surmise contacting them would be a good place start.
For what it's worth...
After playing with prices, time restraints, etc. I have concluded a VF30/34 rebuild would be a better choice. Partly because they can be had relatively cheaply but mostly because removing the turbo is a PITA! lol Given that fact, I feel a replacement had better be an upgrade. Anyway, I hope that helped.

A rebuild only requires a few hours. I got the turbo for $40, the rebuild kit for $99, and have all the tools already. I have the know how, just have not done it myself.
I mainly want to know if there is a larger compressor wheel that I can install with minor , or no porting. I have heard of ION Performance doing a TD04 compressor wheel upgrade but have found very little info on them.
Doing a VF34 upgrade requires a new turbo, injectors, and fuel pump. mostly it's the turbo and injector cost that I do not want. I already have to pay for tuning.
Plus, in another year or so I will either trade in for a 2008 STi, or do a complete STi swap in to my wagon. so I am not looking to dump a ton more cash in to my car.

If there was an easy way to get faster spool AND more top end from the TD-04, I'm thinking someone would have a kit. It's not like it's a new turbo. Spoolup vs Flow is usually a trade off of some sort.
Maybe a lighter compressor? Ceramic? I dunno.. that sounds fragile.
You should just put some carbon fiber stickers on your heat shield and call it a day

See notes on page 4 for the turbine balance adjustment.

I think it would lower the RPM a few thousand, and flow more air.
The Carbon fiber sticky is on it's way. I actually made a CF compressor wheel. it's JDM y0!
