So I want to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB. I was wondering what the difference was between these two? TIA.

Looks like one of them is for laptops, 200 pin, and the other for desktop (Mac Pro system), 240 pin. I think you want the laptop one.

Also, one of them (2x2) is two sticks of 2 gig giving you a total of 4gb while the other is 2x1 which is 2 sticks of 1 gig, giving you a total of 2 gb.

And i'm guessing ur macbook will have 2 slots with 2x1 gb sticks so if you want to go from 2 to 4, you'll need 2x2.

I bought directly from them 2GB (2x1GB) of RAM for my MacBook and love it. Install is easy as hell, and crucial has great prices and a great reputation. Their website even has something you can download and it checks your system and tells you which memory will work for you. Its a BETA software though, and so it thought my Core Duo was a Core 2 Duo.

They also have free 5-7 day shipping on orders over $40. However, I got my memory 5 days after ordering it, and it took like 3 days for them to actually process the order.

Error Correction Code? I am not sure what it does, but I think most people will say that the extra cost is not worth what you use it for. I think ECC is usually something you take and put into either servers or other mission-critical machines.

You really don't need to worry about ECC unless you are running a server... its for stability.

Yup, if you're looking for notebook ram, it has to be notebook, there's quite a size difference.

Kingston, IMHO, is bottom end "brand name" RAM. For the most part, RAM is RAM, but if you're looking for better performance, I'd stay away from Kingston.

In my desktop, I'm currently running 2x1gb G-Skill and a 1x1gb Kingston, and I've tested it, and the Kingston is slowing down my G-Skill even though they're both rated as PC-800 (yes, my mobo is old and still use regular DDR). However, I think (haven't determined as a fact) that 3gb at a 333 speed is better than just 2 G-Skills at 400 speed.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I built my system to be overclocked, but found out that the Kingston is the limiting factor because for some reason, it becomes unstable at the 400 speed. So, if I ever want to overclock it, I'll have to be with 2gbs or find a better stick.

I have had great experiences with G-skills. They have a lifetime warranty, and like I stated earlier, it runs so much better in my desktop than the kingston. Also, my Kingston won't run at advertised speeds.

Though, if your mac is basically used for word processing or surfing, I'd say just get the cheapest ones that fit your need. Also, look at other places than newegg, while they're an extremely reputable company, you can usually find the same items cheaper elsewhere, especially because we're in california and have to pay tax.

g-skills is nice.

I run kingston hyperx ram and I love it. got a great price on 2x1gb sticks and am very pleased. But I personally am a huge corsair fan..
