I hate double-posting, but I thought this sad news deserved wider exposure.

John Lingenfelter passed away after a long struggle resulting from injuries in a drag racing accident he suffered last year. At least he saw one more Christmas.

OMG, I heard about this from my brother but I did not know if it was true. That's so sad. I remember when I had my Camaro I flipped though that LPE catalog everyday. I hope LPE will still make new great products without him. I can still remember when John's Twin turbo Vette got tested for top speed, the hood was lifting off at 200+ MPH.
That sucks man. My condolences goes out to the family.

This is sad news. I'd read of John's accident, surgery, and seeming recovery, and then the mishap during subsequent surgery, and then finally the coma condition. I've been hoping all of these months that somehow he would come out of it.
He was a true innovator in drag race doorslammers and street-legal boulevard sleepers. His shop built the engine which powered the now-legendary Sledgehammer Corvette, which was tested in Hot Rod Magazine in 1989 and produced a top speed of over 254 mph on a closed course in Ohio, and then was driven back to Connecticut. If I remember correctly, it annihilated the competition.

EDIT: mishap, for spelling.

Sorry to hear this. He still has done some of the BEST work out there for my other car (the Impala).....getting them to almost 200 HP/100 ft-lbs over stock while still passing CA smog! Other tuners might have gotten more "peak" numbers, but not with the drivability and durability that Lingenfelter did. The man was a true genius and artist!
