Quick DSL question

Power, Ethernet and DSL lights are all green on modem, yet I can't connect to the internet. I checked and double checked the connections and everything is right. I turned modem on and off several times and get all green. It's been like this the whole day now.

I have a router as well, everything seems to be working fine.

What seems to be the problem? I'm using SBC dsl.

I use zone alarm but it's never had many problems with it.

I did download a Microsoft critical update (for IE, but I use Netscape) the day before but I don't see how that could affect the dsl connection.

I assume you've setup your PPPoE portion of the connection (with your username/pw). That info needs to be input into either:

1. your windows connection settings (if you directly connect modem--->computer)

2. the router PPPoE setup section (if you have computer-->router-->modem).

Good luck.

Or...if you're a new customer (or you moved) you need to call and activate your account. They will give you a temporary login/PW for the PPPoE, you will log in, go on and select a username and setup yoru account. Then you will log out and input your personal username/pw.

pw and stuff is stored in the router. I've never turned it off. I'll try and ping something and see what happens. be back in about 2 min.

wait...go to the router setup page and see if it's connected to the network, sometimes my stupid router just stops being connected and I have to hit connect manually.

there could be problems then if you didn't move, etc.

can't ping a thing. I can't even access the router setup page either. I've tried unplugging the router and having stuff go directly to the modem but still nothing.
