Quetion about getting Dyno Tuned.

My STi is my 1st car that I ever modded in my life. I already got the Invidia catback.

What does it take to get it tune for my car, and how much is it going to cost me? I don't even know where to take it to get it tuned. I am located North San Jose so I prefer to go to someone locally if possible, and to someone who knows what they are doing and got a good background on GR series.

Free. Just upload the cobb stage 2 map from your AP when you put the dp on.

Boost creep will happen in 4th and 5th gears if you try to go full throttle or going for full boost on higher gears while trying to go uphill. Mostly heavy load will cause boost creep. I have no issue with it. Just know where not to being going all out. I run full catless on a 2.5 btw.

I would get a pro tune not that cobb map, Give eq tuning a call and he can tell you some more information about getting the car tuned. I like that ed will tuno the car on the dyno and also take it out on the street for real life driving.

What is the fix for boost creep?

External wastegate, larger turbo, ported wastegate opening. Honestly it's not even a big deal IMO. Really not worth going out of your way to cure this on a stock turbo.

If a TBE and a DP is all you have, it's a waste of your money to get a full tune for just those 2 mods. Others might say otherwise, but just look at your options before you thik about dynotuning! =]

For just a TBE you can do an off the shelf map from Cobb. A protune will be a little bit better but you're not going to see huge differences. Mostly it's peace of mind and probably a bit smoother.

If you're going with Invidia stuff you're probably trying to stay lower in cost... use an off the shelf map.

If you are going to go with a pro tune I would evaluate your goals. If you are planning on adding ANY parts in the next year I would wait. Put together the parts you want then get a protune.

Everyone on here is going to tell you to use this tuner or that tuner. Do some reading. Pick the person you are most comfortable with. At this stage in the game they'll all be just fine. Your mods are minimal. Me personally... I say Mike at GST and Paul at DB. Mike is gonna be closer to you.

I went to Mike @ GST. They're in Hayward. It cost me something like $300 for a tune. Mike spends a good 2-3 hours tuning the car to get it just right.

Give him a call and ask some questions, he's SUPER knowledge able in that department.

most of the boost creap is over the ap tuning, a custom tune with a boost controller will fix that problem

Huge huge warning with this... Once you get tuned do not change ANYTHING. Especially the boost controller. I've seen so much carnage over people going... oh I'll just turn the boost up a little.

Internal waste gate is fine on a stage 2, its a hell of alot quieter than going external. I am tuned to 17.5 psi and I'll overshoot that in boostcreep by a couple pounds in 6th gear at WOT. Just downshifting while accelerating will keep it from happening.

I agreed. I've driven cobb stage 2 for 2 years and have also driven a protuned stage 2. Not a huge difference. The protune was smoother but not worth the money when you have an ap. When you get a bigger turbo, the protune makes a world of a difference.

I say protune would be nice just cause its smoother and a bit more refined to your car Sione. OTS maps are just generic and as your probably know each car is a bit different. I would say get a hallman mbc, maybe a big maf intake if you want. Then take it to EQ for a dyno or road tune. Either way its gonna be set to your driving conditions. If you want you can do an e-mail tune with AMR, that's where Paul got his. Plus you can go opensource with Ed then you can get rid of your AP and sell it for other parts or maybe someone will trade for a downpipe. If you come out Saturday I'm pretty sure we will have enough people to give you great options and opinions.
