I find there could be more issues they can go give tickets for instead of exhaust tickets and no front plates but i guess they are bored and have nothing better to do.
actually the CVC says you can't modify it with the intent to be louder, and they can't really prove your intent. There is also the "loud and obnoxious" line, but that is hard to prove too, since thats a matter of opinion

I put my CBE on to increase fuel efficiency

I was just saying what he said. he tried to say anything other than stock is modified so if we want to give a ticket we can.

They'll give a ticket whether or not they want to, whether or not the ticket will hold up in court is another story (most people would just pay it though)

27150. (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

Unfortunately, Section 27150 doesn't define "excessive" meaning the only guideline given is the 95dB. It's really lame how much grey area the write into the CVC

(I guess the "intent to increase volume" line got rewritten)

we aren't sure why it was marked as it was, the other thing was modified emissions system for the BOV/BPV and advised 27150/27151. I think thats what it was written for.

My favorite part of the whole thing is when the CHP pointed to the Intercooler spray line and asked "Is that Nitrous? Do you have Nitrous on your car?"
