sorry but i recieved my car when i graduated at 16 and went straight to school at wyotech so i never really got into the ricer stage and douche bag stage. so it all just depends on the owners of the car. i was very active with extracurricular activity's in high school - marketing, leadership, tennis - so i mean i also spent most of my days at school from 7am- about 5-6pm which made me more responsible. so you cant just say all the 16,17,18 year olds are douches or tools. it all depends on what they have done and what type of crowds they hang out with. i would just say some are douches and some are responsible. but i wouldnt say every single kid that gets one is a ricer right away.
just my thoughts
and i currently work at stevens creek subaru in the parts department and im only 18 turning 19 in a month.

I think every 16 year old should only be allowed to drive FWD cars until they are 18. If i ruled a country, that would be my rule. Actually if i ruled, i would be the only one to have RWD so i know nobody would drift into me.
And if you autocross, or have taken a racing school, then you would be allowed to drive RWD at 16.
But seriously, HP should be limited with age. Its BS how 18 year olds ca screw insurance rates for ALL other ages, really its BS.
Youre first car should be 100 hp anyways, too many people rely on turbos and straightaways to keep up, and thats very toolish of them.
QF....T.... *tear*

If u think snaking through traffic and cutting people off is crazy then u should see how they drive in Europe...Its the norm!!! I learned to drive in Greece on some of europe's most deadly roads and I have had my share of risky endeavors. You must be 18 to drive there and the license requirements are much more strict. I think people here are allowed to drive at too young an age without proper testing. No teenager should be allowed to drive a turbo charged car unless its a Volvo 240 DL or unless they know how to heel-toe....
My complaint though is that a lot of the time people in the US over react to seeing others drive aggressively here than in other countries. (Having driven both here and in EU). I was yelled at by some guy saying "You think u got race car? My z28 will **** that thing up stop driving like its ur own personal race track! I got ur plates and im calling the cops" All i did was pass a car in front of me and not use my blinker..why? Because no one else was around me that needed indicating and the guy yelling at me was in a POS metro 100ft at least behind me observing my lane change and felt the need to put in his $.02. Still waiting for the porkers to show up..yea right
Just be glad that most Scooby owners are not like some other idiots on the road. But dont forget that WRX is meant to be driven hard and not everyone can save themselves for trackdays.

Just because you haven't been caught or haven't killed yourself doesn't mean that you are driving like somebody who could possibly do just that. Yeah, maybe you have enough skills to weave between cars, but when a driver two lanes over who doesn't see you zooming by tries to switch lanes in the same space as him and crashes with you, you'll be singing another tune.
Stop thinking you're invincible and stop driving like an asshat.

Car Info: missing my STI 2006
thanks guys
I see that this kid must not be on the forum.
And yes it was my girl friends gti VR6 we were in. it is fast and fun but nothing like my STI. I'm sure if we were in my car H would have really tired to race.
In the end just enjoy your cars and don't put other people at risk.. find a back road to take your self out on if that is your mission.

Ok this is the stupidest **** I've heard in a long time, this is a general stereotype that all young drivers are stupid that is like saying all Asians are smart or all blacks are good at basketball, true there are a lot of stupid young drivers but can you honestly tell me that you have never driven fast just because you can? People of all ages have there stupid moments. Stop trying to blame the worlds problems on my generation. Maybe you should take a survey and ask all the people over the age of 21 if ANY of them have gotten in a car accident that was THEIR fault becuase that is what's really driving up our insurance rate

I will admit I was a retard with my first car too...
at 14yo I bought a 1970 VW bug, and started building it. On my 16th birthday it was done. Imagine if you will, 70 body, 58 fenders, drooped spindles, drop beam, rear beam adjusters, Lightened body and pan(remove all metal not needed and cut out most of floor pan replace with fiberglass) disk brake conversion, Fiberglass doors, Fiberglass hood and deck lid, plexiglass windows, street/strip close ratio strait cut gear trans-axle with spooled axle, Gene Burg built 2180cc Type I(Mk II) case breathing thru 58mm Webber downdrafts and 041 big valve heads putting a dynoed 154hp out.
Now, dad says, "do NOT go to Santa Barbara to cruse tonight" and me "Ok...im just gona go over to hang with bill tonight ok?" of course bill and I go to SB, Saturday night, state street, the cruse is on. SB VW club comes rolling down other side, Shawn(the Pres) reves at me, I dump the clutch and do a wheelie in the middle of state! I panic, hit the brakes, and *SLAM* front end comes down snapping both ball joints up front. Bug now sits in street looking like its resting with its tires tucked under it. Cop sees entire thing, makes me call my dad
we all do dumb stuff, but...some things, like zipping in and out of traffic is just unsafe to everyone.

I dont want to agree with the adjective of "stupid" in regards to teen drivers, but inexperienced seems the most befitting. Driving isn't as genetically built in as say walking, but with practice you can end up being pretty decent at both.
Then you throw chewing gum into the mix of either and BAM, teenage blonde girls all over the world engage in epic fails.

statistics have shown younger drivers in general are higher risk on the road..
younger drivers are typically easily distracted, lack of experience, general knowledge, common sense, easier influenced by their peers, easily excited by fast cars, nervousness, mature judgement, lack of guidance from the parents, the list goes on and on. all these factors combined equal the ricer boy we see every now and then.
proper education and guidance is key!
