Pulled over by CHP and recieved a State Ref. ticket

So, I was driving from Sacramento on I-80 and was on my way to Richmond. I was passing through Green Valley and there was a CHP sitting there by the weigh station and he heard my loud exhaust, so he pulled me over.

He was going to write me for the loud exhaust (I have HKS High Power), but also told me to open my hood. I only have an APS CAI and turbo inlet under the hood only. So, he saw the CAI and wrote me a state ref. ticket for the CAI.

So anyway, I have to smog my car and I have to turn my car back to stock (going back to stock exhaust and air box), but the inlet will be a pain and was wondering if the state ref. will notice the inlet? The APS inlet matches my red intake manifold (I drive an STi).

So, will there be a chance that I can pass smog with the APS inlet on? Or give it a shot and see what happens? It's just the inlet I'm worried about pretty much. I think I should pass emissions, but not sure about visual.

Oh yeah, I have a stage 2 protune, is there anything I have to do to my ECU? Just uninstall my AccessPORT? Will my car have to relearn anything?

as far as the AP goes, just load the "stock" realtime map. As far as the inlet goes, I cannot lend any advice.

If you're "stage 2", that means u have a aftermarket downpipe as well. I would put the stock downpipe back on.

Thanks for the help.

I'm changing my exhaust back to stock for sure, but my main concern is the APS inlet. I'm not sure if it's going to pass the visual part....

I used to have a blue inlet hose but changed it to black inlet and covered the Perrin logo and that worked.

Gluck, state ref is such a pain.

u can keep the hi power catback on. It's borderline but for the most part it passes the 95dB noise lvl

If u got cited for 27151 u can get a noise certificate if u pass

Thanks,

Also, does the state ref. only check things that are listed in the ticket or do they wonder off around your car and look for other things?

Oh ok, I don't have anything else.

I just hope the best for my inlet when I get my car checked.

just curious, what downpipe did you have?

as for advice, all i can say is take anything off the car that isn't stock. not sure if the APS inlet will pass, but it does look stock since it matches the manifold. when i had to go to the state ref, i failed because my boost gauge did not look stock. (prosport gauge) i was so mad. good luck!!!

I have an Invidia downpipe. But I'm changing my whole exhaust back to stock. It's just the turbo inlet I'm concerned of most that's all.

they mentioned the same thing with my defi gauges even tho they werent connected, they were just there, they mentioned they couldnt run the test and that id have to come back and reschedule.

as far as locations go, i went to wyotech and i didnt like it there. i ended up going to evergreen in san jose and they were much better there. the tech was super nice and started small talk with me while inspecting the car. ive heard a lot of good reviews on the alameda ref station too.

Ahh, I have a Defi 60mm boost gauge. I guess I have to hope for that one to pass too? And the inlet.

As far as the turbo inlet went for me up here in Sonoma county when I had to go to the state ref he let me by with my Perrin blue turbo inlet. According to him he said it was a stock replacement part and did no effect emissions so he let it go. I do not know if he was just being cool with me or they are really legal but it worked out for me.
