pre 2002 child restraint question
Anyone know if any subie that are pre 2002 have the child safety restraints? probably not.
So if not, what do you think about say a 98-2000 Forester getting these things installed. I am talking about taking the rear seats or maybe just the backs out and having a metal shop weld the brackets so we can attach a car seat.
any concerns? integrity, interferrance with the fold down seats, etc.
also did they have the huge moonroof in the 98-2000 Forester?
TIA

I assume you're talking about the LATCH connectors? Personally, I would NEVER trust my daughter's life to something being welded into my car. I would just use the seatbelt method of attachment. Good luck.

yes I am. that thought has run through my mind many times. but isn't the LATCH in the 2002 welded on too?
or are you saying that you don't use the latch and only the seat belt even in your WRX?
we use the latch in the our WRX and tether it to the rear. and have used both methods and I can tell you from "how secure the seat feels" stand point the latch system is much better.

Are the seat belt type still legal? The one I'm using is 5 years old, and uses the seat belt. My WRX has the modern hook type, but the baby seat is old-school.

Oh I use exclusively the LATCH system, and would never use the seatbelt mount unless it was the only thing available. Even then I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it.
I meant "aftermarket" welded. Unless you're going to have a very smart and skilled materials scientist weld the connectors into your car, I wouldn't trust it.
