Power switch for boost gauge?
Hey all.
I am going to install my defi racer boost gauge tonight when I get my car back later.
I've been reading around on nasioc and some people said they have power switches for their gauge so when a popo is around, they flick the switch to turn the power off so it attracts less attention (he said he got pulled over and the ref said that, technically an aftermarket boost gauge is illegal). Is that a good idea for me to do?
I bought a blue gauge when I probably should've bought red or white to make it look more stock. anyone want to trade? lol
thanks!

Haha, no worries. Thanks for the pic, it helped alot to know what to look for.
I'm not sure if my subie has those 2 panels right there though, but I'll take a look. I know I have maybe 2 extra slots where my foglight button is, so maybe I can hook it up to there.

Yeah the foglight buttons are the same. I just dremeled out a hole for the switch. Make sure if you do pick one up from Fry's that its strictly an "On/Off" switch, not "On/Off/Off", "On/On/Off", etc... It should only have two prongs on the end to solder to.

Okay, so I finally just finished the installation of my defi boost gauge. Hit some snags but I eventually figured it out...totally my fault. I eventually finished my installation after coming back from dinner.
Got everything all wired up and was about to clean everything up when I notice that my DRLs were on, BUT my lever **** wasn't turned to the running light position or anything. It was all the way in the off position. So I checked my wiring again and again and played with everything from the wiring from the clock down to the wiring at the headlights but nothing was turning off the running lights. Even if I lock the car they were still on. I did this for maybe 45 minutes to an hour and I got so mad I hit my forehead against the steering column. I look up and then realize my DRL button was flipped to the on position, the one that's located right ontop of my steering column. I flipped that switch and off goes my DRLs......
Now, I am wondering whether it's my fault due to my wiring or not, but my boost gauge is constantly illuminated. It doesn't matter if I have DRLs on, or all my lights on, or lights off, the gauge is still illuminated.
Is that normal for the gauge to be constantly illuminated?

Just curious, why would one be pulled over for gauges. What I mean to say is, what would be the reason from the officer if the gauges were the only thing you a being popped for.
Distraction?
Has anyone ever been pulled over for gauges?
Im doing my install soon, and i was gonna leave out doing the on/off switch, but if it is an issue might do the extra wiring

Yes, I wired my gauges into my Headlights so that when the headlights came on, the gauges turned off. Police pulled me over and said that the gauges were a distraction when I had them in the center of the dashboard.
It really doesn't make sense but they're saying cause they're moving around and soo bright, but your normal gauges are the same way. It's just another lame way they can technically get you.

For that very reason I wired mine to a constant 12v switch. So i can turn my gauges on/off at any time (even if the car is off).
So I could be driving by and see a cop and just turn them off and have nothign else power down.
Heres mine:
I put the switch on the bottom of the drivers side dash, close to the flip down try for the fuse box

Maybe I'll stop by local automotive store to see if they carry any constant 12V switches.
Do you guys know where I can get one that's like the stock push buttons for the foglights? IIRC, I have 2 extra slots that I can knock and and put something there. I'd rather have the push buttons so they look stock.
If I wire them to my red power wire, once I flip the switch, the clock will go out, am I correct? IDC, just wanted to know
